What Skiers Say About Serre Chevalier
Serre Chevalier attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers noting the extensive 250km ski area spread across four villages. Intermediate and advanced riders consistently praise the varied terrain, tree-lined runs, and accessible off-piste options. The resort is described as quiet, particularly outside French school holidays, with minimal lift queues and a relaxed, authentic French atmosphere. Common criticisms include outdated lift infrastructure, limited après-ski options, and lower altitude base areas that can suffer from poor snow conditions or become slushy in warmer weather. Reviews frequently highlight good value for money and praise the authenticity of the villages, though some note that prices are still typical for France.

The grocery shops although there are a few are quite small and expensive so its worth bringing food with you if in the area
Outside of skiing there are good activities to do such as ice skating which was very quiet in the evening.
Ski school was good value for money getting a package with skis and passes included however we found it is hit and miss depending on the instructor as we had one very good one and one who was not as good.
Overall a great resort with friendly staff.
I love this place.
A diamond resort
Plenty of places to explore across the mountain with a few terrain parks about and plenty of areas to try those first few jumps.
Where we stayed there is not a lot of nightlife. But we was there for the skiing. But nothing stopping you getting a great meal in one of the many restaurants or a few beers in one of the small bars.
Highly recommend as somewhere different to try out. Helps that its budget friendly.
We always fly to Turin and transfer over the border. Its cheaper and quicker that transfers from other French airports! Have fun!!
Apres is quiet but that is because it is mainly a locals resort. Ski school is great with a few British ski guides and instructors.
Lifts can get busy in the morning but where doesnt?
Overall a brilliant ski resort and off the tourist track.
We had a great time, plenty of variety on greens, blues and the odd red and black run. The package included full board (plentiful buffet style meals) so we didn't really eat out except for snacks on piste. We had one snowy day and the rest of the week was sunny and hot.
The resort app is great and has a tracker which replays your day, giving 'badges' for achievements such as distance, altitude descent, time, colours of piste. We found it very French, fairly quiet (hardly any lift queues) and very relaxed. We only experienced the entertainment in our UCPA which was great for families.
Villeneuve has a nice local swimming pool, and Monetier-les-bains has an incredible natural hot springs pool complex, definitely worth the cost and short bus ride.
We would go again!
The snow was quite poor in March and some of the runs had debris and mud, but there were plenty of runs that were in decent condition. As a boarder there were a lot of moguls by the end of the day, which made it hard to get up speed.
Of all the resorts Ive visited, Serre Chevalier had the biggest lack of apres and nightlife. There were a few bars, restaurants and activities like bowling, but nothing too exciting.
I probably wouldnt visit again, but if I did then I would visit closer to Christmas time.
