What Skiers Say About Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers noting the extensive 250km ski area spread across four villages. Intermediate and advanced riders consistently praise the varied terrain, tree-lined runs, and accessible off-piste options. The resort is described as quiet, particularly outside French school holidays, with minimal lift queues and a relaxed, authentic French atmosphere. Common criticisms include outdated lift infrastructure, limited après-ski options, and lower altitude base areas that can suffer from poor snow conditions or become slushy in warmer weather. Reviews frequently highlight good value for money and praise the authenticity of the villages, though some note that prices are still typical for France.

Amazing week in Serre chevalier ! Lots of gorgeous slopes and lifts worked very well . Access to many different runs and lots of places for a pint afterwards ! ESF ski school was great and really pushed me from beginner to intermediate. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice family friendly resort with great restaurants and accommodation.

I often think Serre Chevalier is still the hidden gem of the alps. The ski area is massive, the 4th biggest in the alps. The negatives, its 4 charming villages and a proper town meaning it’s not ski in ski out, but they are charming villages and there’s a range of accommodation options. Briancon (the town) one and is, a proper town, and the lift access isn’t great but the old town is worth a visit. At the other end of the valley is Moneitier, a lovely quiet village with hot spring spa.
Eating out is great. Apres is not brilliant but try the Grotte.
Skiing is so varied - and massive. It’ll take a day to ski between villages.
Park is OK for intermediates.
Off piste is there if you know where to look.
Overall an amazing resort.

Quiet, well kept slopes. Something for everyone regardless of level. Not too many slow connecting tracks that are tricky for boarders. Low key après options; cosy bars and a bit of live music depending on the venue. The connection with other resorts under Grande Galaxie allows for an inexpensive day trip or two for anyone feeling adventurous.

Loved the ski area in Serre Chevalier
Very big well groomed lost of different experience level runs.
Quite a treck to get from one side of the mountain to the other.
Not a man made resort so accommodation is all down in the valley so not great for the piste side April but amazing skiing. North facing mountain the whole way so usually well mainted snow as doesn't get too slushed up by the sun.

I've skied all over France but I keep coming back to Serre Chevalier. It's not the biggest and the snow isn't always amazing but the friendliness of everyone on the slopes and the ease of getting away from the crowds more than makes up for that. There's some fantastic red runs above Chantermerle and taking the black Luc Alphand down at the end of the day is a must. Not at all top end but very family friendly and something for everyone. The DIY barbeque area at the top of Cucumelle is a must. Just make sure you bring something with you to cook. A slice of proper French skiing.

Outstanding resort that’s the best kept secret in the alps. Ignore the base height all the skiing is above 2000 and it’s outstanding!

A spread out resort so once you're up in the morning it never seems too crowded. And because it covers a big area, there are always options to ski to for lunch. Allegedly one of the best resorts for sunshine - but didn't really notice that in January.

“Serre” Chevalier literally means small mountain but this is anything but. Vast, varied terrain (approx 250km just on slope) and more if lucky enough to get good off piste conditions. Appreciate this is a skiing review but you can ski all the way from the top into Briancon - a fortified, mediaeval city at the cross roads of 3 valleys which pushed back the Italian invasion in WW2. If you’re interested you can experience where the French resistance lurked in the mountains in the winter. It’s a cool and unique place - and the food, wine and people are superb. Can’t wait to go again this season!

I’ve been to Serre Chevallier 5 or 6 times & I’m booked to go again in March. My wife and I love it. The snow isn’t always perfect but many other areas are within easy reach including La Grave.

Great resort that has a variety of slopes, generally fairly quiet outside of school holidays. Lower areas can lack a bit of snow at the end of the season but the top is always great!

Great experience in Serre Chevalier. Easy drive with hire car from Turin Airport and plenty of parking options on arrival. Accommodation was great value for money (plenty of options). Slopes were generally quiet with virtually no lift queues and the runs didn't get cut up too much in the afternoons. Snow was great once up the mountain but the quality of runs down in to Briancon and other villages was not great (late season) and probably wouldn't recommend for beginners. Food on the mountain was generally good value for money. Going again this year!

Very affordable resort with good access from the airport. Lots of variety of runs with good ski lifts. We were able to get the gondola down to Briancon which allowed us to visit a new town. A great option of shops and food. Lots of snow
