What Skiers Say About Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers noting the extensive 250km ski area spread across four villages. Intermediate and advanced riders consistently praise the varied terrain, tree-lined runs, and accessible off-piste options. The resort is described as quiet, particularly outside French school holidays, with minimal lift queues and a relaxed, authentic French atmosphere. Common criticisms include outdated lift infrastructure, limited après-ski options, and lower altitude base areas that can suffer from poor snow conditions or become slushy in warmer weather. Reviews frequently highlight good value for money and praise the authenticity of the villages, though some note that prices are still typical for France.

We went to Serre Che in Feb 2024. Despite there being no snow the time we were there, the runs were looked after well and it was only on the last day where it got quite slushy, due to hotter weather.Theres a really good selection of runs for everyone and the ski pass covers the area from Briancon right up the valley. Transport is great between villages (buses seemed frequent enough) if you want to explore other places. If youre looking for lively apres then its not really the place for that - but it is perfect for some relaxed drinks at the end of the day and some awesome French mountain food too. 100% recommend for those wanting a great ski holiday with a more relaxed apres option.

Serre Chevalier has an excellent range of skiing to suit all levels, from well groomed runs to unpisted blacks, and excellent offpiste. Too many ski areas groom every piste every night, especially Italian areas, leaving offpiste as the only challenge for advanced skiers, but not in Serre Chevalier.

Superb ski area with lots of tree-line skiing. Has a real 'local' French feel unlike many resorts. Stay in Briancon if you need to save costs, as accommodation is cheaper here.

We've skied Serre Chevalier a few January's in a row and it's just a really great area with lots of diverse terrain and we've always had great snow. It's huge as well with a couple of ski cross tracks, a zip line and great restaurants.

We were in SC over New Year. It was noticeablly very busy. On the first day took us over an hour to get on the gondola (from the second day we got to the lift 30mins before the opening time to beat the crowds). Whilst the ski area had a lovely feel to it, the pistes were too busy to fully enjoy the trip.
Plenty of ski equipment suppliers in Briancon and hotels/accommodation.
Apres isn't really a thing up the mountain or in Briancon - if you are looking for Apres give this town a miss.
The old town of Briancon was stunning! There are a multitude of restaurants to eat in. The food (and wine) was good value.

First time snow boarding as an adult and I can honestly say it's been unbelievable. My partner who has skied for much longer can't speak highly enough of this resort - it's quiet but alpine character, good food and a picon biere. Everyone is lovely too!

Really enjoyed our stay. Lots of skiing and great instructors. We had fairly icey older snow for the first 4 days, snowing all day on the 5th day and lovely powder skiing on the last day.
When icey some of the red runs up high became very difficult. Blacks lower down much easier.
Overall great holiday

A really lovely resort, plenty of options for a whole range of abilities and experience levels. The pistes were well looked after, with plenty of restaurants/cafes on the slopes. The town was nice but rather small, though it wasnt far to briancon with shops and a thermal spa.

I worked a season here, and really enjoying it. Interesting terrain, including some outstanding off piste tree runs that allow for relatively safe skiing off piste even in poor visibility. You can find some very quiet posted areas during the week days and is day the area is particularly useful for groups of mixed abilities.
Aprés was distinctly average in my opinion, although you can find some very interesting bars and restaurants in Vauban. The walled city above Briançon which is also a world heritage site.

Serre Chevalier is a great resort. As a beginner it had loads of green runs for practicing and improving technique. The only tricky bit is getting back to the gondola above chantemerlae on the way home. There's a blue run down to it that was super busy, narrow and chopped up by about midday, which is my worst nightmare! Other than that the resort was great. Plenty of nice restaurants on and off the mountain and an apartment right next to the gondola - perfect!

I worked a season in Serre Chevalier last year and the best bits had to be the amazing off piste and tree runs it has to offer! The only downsides are its a smaller resort based around more family crowds but if thats what youre going for then its perfect for you. Again the off piste is amazing and the tree runs are some of the best Ive ridden on snowboard.
