What Skiers Say About Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many reviewers noting the extensive 250km ski area spread across four villages. Intermediate and advanced riders consistently praise the varied terrain, tree-lined runs, and accessible off-piste options. The resort is described as quiet, particularly outside French school holidays, with minimal lift queues and a relaxed, authentic French atmosphere. Common criticisms include outdated lift infrastructure, limited après-ski options, and lower altitude base areas that can suffer from poor snow conditions or become slushy in warmer weather. Reviews frequently highlight good value for money and praise the authenticity of the villages, though some note that prices are still typical for France.

Chantemerle is a fabulous resort. Right at the foot of the slopes with a great range of skiing for all levels. Fantastic restaurants and we loved our hotel too!

Great resort - lots of variety in runs, and we made use of the option to redeem free days in other nearby resorts (own transport required). Town was quiet when we went but were outside peak holiday season so might be more going on in holidays!

Serre Chevalier was a lively resort and one I'd definitely go back to. It wasn't as cheap as some people made out, but certainly had a broad and varied ski zone. My only downside was the weather...it got hot and melted the snow so the lower ski slopes became slushy and made it difficult to return to the village centre at times.

I highly recommend Serre Chevalier! Great skiing resort, very French, not too many other nationalities which is lovely. Very quiet in January as well! No apres but nice atmosphere at the bottom in some bars after skiing and cheap drinks! The weather is always great, very sunny.

Great ski resort, not too big so not busy, no lift queues during week days. Very accessible for beginners. Great mountain restaurant options. It is a small resort so not loads of bars and restaurants for the evenings.

Conditions were amazing this week, even the black runs felt like reds. Week was comparatively quiet, Saturday was busier but there was also a ski event planned. Nice big area, we were in Monetier but easy to access all areas.

We stayed at the UCPA. Very close to the slopes. Lift times were good and the slopes weren't too busy.

Nice and quiet place to ski over Christmas, but that may be because of a lack of fresh snow. Think it may be used by locals who did not travel at this time.
Nevertheless, 80% of area skiable, if a bit icy in patches. A good place for us intermediates to visit.

Just amazing for learning - more for the ski and chill - cool vibe, not a super posh vibe which I loved!

A good, no frills area, covering four main towns / villages across 250km. Basic lifts, drags are a bit violent and are button lifts, so beware boarders! Queues not very long most of the time. Well groomed pistes. Many kept non-pisted. Great off-piste options, which run back to piste. A lot of off-piste tree options. Overall, good variety for different levels of skiers. You do need to be able to ski a red run to link Monetier with Villeneuve/Moulin Taravellier.

Good piste skiing above 2000m. Pleasant skiing among trees at lower altitude. Most lifts are a bit antiquated and could do with upgrading. Lovely traditional villages with traditional good-value food and drink. A relaxing resort to ski!

We were lucky to stay fairly central, so the link between hotel, ski hire and lifts was short and convenient.

Went here with another couple and thought the resort was positively charming. Quite an old school vibe and not too many non french skiiers around which potentially made the holiday quite chill. The local restaurants were really authentic and the villagers seemed to be focused on local produce. Many tree lined runs and cool vistas. Would definitely come again. Great for anyone looking for a french ski trip that doesn't break the bank
