Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Large ski area as linked to many others. True ski in and out. No cars just horse and cart and snowcats that take you around. Perfect for familys as no hassle with lifting and carrying equipment. Just put it on and go! Many easier runs perfect for intermediate skiers.

A beautiful, picturesque resort, high location, with stunning views. The centre is car free, giving it a lovely olde world feeling. Very pretty. Ski ing is amazing, huge area with runs for all levels. The accommodation is limited though to self catering apartments and hotels. For a chalet lover (both self catered or catered) this is a big draw back.

Avoriaz is purpose built resort its lovely as built into the mountain so doesnt detract from the beauty of the mountains somehow blends in naturally.
Its family friendly but can get extremely busy in school holidays but then any resort can! Its got a good mix of slopes and we had a great holiday here. Tasty food in most restaurants too especially tartiflette!!

Avoriaz is a really characterful resort, plenty of nightlife and great apres. The ski area is huge and varied from chilled groomers to a snow park and technical black runs. Easy to access morzine and Swiss resorts in the pirates du soleil region. Plenty of on slope restaurants and bars to keep you going. Lifts were all very modern and efficient and very rarely had to queue more than 5 mins to use them. Pedestrianised streets in town with horse drawn sleighs add to the charm.

I have visited Avoriaz several times and its a really attractive resort as its fairly high altitude and close to Geneva Airport (less than an hour) which is great as I tend to go for short 4 days skiing rather than a week.

It has great verity of accommodation for reasonable prices and flexible dates and a big skii area to take advantage.

Great ski in and ski out
I heard a great description of Avoriaz of the ski lift saying that Avoriaz was like Disneyland on snow.
There is something for everyone.
The views are insane and the snowboarding is incredible but I have noticed it getting busier and more expensive.
Some beautiful tree lined runs and some great open wide runs too.
I returned year after year.

Great resort for family skiing and beginners like ourselves, great family garden, our kids loved it. Especially the horse ride to our hotel! Everything you need was close together and easy to find, and no matter where you stay you are close to the lifts. we can't wait to go back!

Love visiting Avoriaz! Pretty much garunteed snow. The town has a really nice traditional alpine feel, no cars, horse and carts etc. Its great for families with young children especially. The snow park is brilliant, jumps often get built up higher as the season goes on. Moguls are especially great if youre brave enough to attempt the Swiss wall! A really nice selection of runs. Apres is great as they have a Folies and igloo higher up but this does close earlier with the lifts/slopes. Avoriaz is well connected to Morzine where you can also ski over to Les Get, can also ski over to Switzerland too from Avoriaz.

The thing I love most about Avoriaz is the vast expanse of ski range. You have Morzine, les gets easily accessible and access to chambery Switzerland too.

Avoriaz is the ultimate ski in/ski out resort.

The town is so idyllic, located higher up the mountain than most. With no cars, only horse and carriage or snowmobiles for transport. Although everything is within walking distance, which creates a great environment for families or those bouncing between apres. Great choice of restaurants and other entertainment too.

You have access to enough challenging and gentle blue and red runs with the Avoriaz ski pass for a week, however you can go with the Portes Du Soleil pass which gives you access to over 300 runs, including the Swiss Wall.
Ski lifts are efficient but certain areas do get crowded at certain times, which is to be expected anywhere.

Only drawbacks would be the lack of lager chalets but theres enough large apartments to do the job & the apres scene is calmer than some other resorts.

We have been multiple times and would go again the skiing is always great, the resort its self only allows horse and sleigh through it, no motor vehicles which I think makes it even more special. There is a massive ski area so plenty to keep you occupied, I will definitely go again

We stayed in Les crosets and skid Avoriaz. There was a really great variety of terrain across the different resorts. The apres at avoriaz was really fun and there were are lot of nice food options.
If you arent staying in avoriaz itself and there is some bad weather you have to be a bit careful with last lifts as if the weather is bad they can close and it can be really difficult to get across the mountain as the taxi journey is really long.
Really fun mountain overall
