Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

This was my first big high mountain resort and I was blown away. The pistes were exceptional quality with modern lifts and an enormous variety. The lift pass also gives you enormous options to travel through the surrounding valleys.

We stayed in Avoriaz itself, which had a good party atmosphere but I think would also suit families depending on accommodation. Plenty of restaurants and bars. There is even a nice waterpark/swimming pool for a rest day. Being able to roll out of bed and onto the piste was an amazing experience.

There were several terrain parks with all levels in mind. The dedicated off piste areas were also exceptional. We also saw several ski tourers and free riders making use of the lifts to access more serious terrain.

I will 100% be back and cant recommend the resort highly enough!

We were staying in morzine where there was barely any snow so we had to take a bud to avoriaz. It was super crowded from everyone going there as it was the highest mountain in the area. But the slopes were fun and good with some more challenging slopes

I went to avoriaz over christmas and it was 100% worth it. The resort feels like its been plucked right out of a christmas movie. The resort is ski in ski out which was amazing and they even have horse drawn sleighs carrying peoples suit cases around.
Now the skiing, the mountain was pretty good but it felt like most the runs were pretty short and there wasnt too many black runs. Few of the lifts kept closing and people definitely do not know how to que on the resort. But the parks were really fun and had a good selection of jumps. With one of the courses going through the forest had benches and some real cool builds to send off.

Avoriaz is a great high altitude, snow bowl resort offering great conditions throughout the season. At high altitude there is a great selection of alpine runs and lots of opportunity for off piste skiing, on both marked routes and under chairlifts. There is not a huge amount of tree lined runs but the resort boasts great connections across the whole of port de soluei region which has plenty to offer. There is a range of apres options in the resort allowing for great fun off the slopes. Due to the resorts popularity both lifts and slopes can be extremely busy so if you are looking for quieter pistes I would suggest skiing over the border to the the Swiss side which is considerably quieter.

Overall I'd put this resort into the bracket, great for beginners, good aprè ski scene but not an abundance of challenging runs. If it is your first holiday and you want an overall ski holiday experience, the Avoriaz is the place for you to go.

Avoriaz is a great resort, is costly and busy but beautiful location, you can get first tracks as its ski in and ski out, the ski area is massive, and have a huge selection of runs.

As part of the Porte du Soleil there is more skiing available, of all types, than can be completed in a visit. Avoriaz, as a resort, has an amazing family vibe with a total lack of cars and children playing everywhere in the evenings. Lots of places to eat out and three very well stocked supermarkets cater to ask tastes and budgets.

I love Avoriaz as a resort, theres a good atmopshere in the restaurants and plenty of runs to go at, with a variety in the type of skiing it demands which is always fun. Theres enough off-piste to go on courses and get off the beaten track which is needed in the busier holiday periods!
The skiing available, numerous on-mountain eateries and efficient linkage between lifts makes Avoriaz a great resort for learners and advanced skiers alike - a great family holiday for sure !

Terrific variety and scope of skill with access to the Portes du Soleil resorts.
Not as high as some resorts but there is always snow somewhere - supported by extensive artificial snow coverage. Equally its slopes are often open when higher resorts are closed for high winds.
Mountain eating is more reasonably priced than many resorts.
Good range of non-skiing activities/entertainments available.

Having a compact town centre ski facilities, restaurants and bars are all readily at hand. Ski chalet type accommodation is widely available but the dominating feature of the town is the 3 off 13 storey blocks of flats that follow the face of the mountain. Its surreal to exit the lift on the 13th floor and find yourself at ground level of the next block.
The ski runs are well groomed and offer challenges for all levels of skiers (and boarders). As part of a much wider ski area that takes in Morzine and Les Lindarets there are lots of new runs explore every day.
Just to the side of some the higher runs there are off-piste areas, however you have to be up early to get the best conditions following a fresh fall of snow.
Night life is centred around the restaurants and bars in the main areas which offer selections to suit all tastes.
The out of town parking gives you the opportunity to start and end your holiday with a horse drawn sleigh ride.
Happy Skiing.

Avoriaz has got busier and busier over the years, sometimes becoming unbearable in holiday season. When it is quiet it is close to being one of the most fun resorts in the Alps with the varied terrain and snow parks. The connections to Morzine and Chatel mean that on a busy day you can tap out and chase the open slopes elsewhere, but often as the only place in PDS with snow left it can lead to chaos queues!

Avoriaz is a superb, friendly ski resort. One of the strong points is the size of the Portes du Soleil ski area, with links to Chatel and Morzine. Access to the slopes is very close throughout the resort. The accommodation and dining options are varied and easily accessible on skis. In my opinion, this is one of the best ski resorts in France.

Avoriaz is a picturesque and overall great resort. It sits at 1800m and is known for having great snow meaning you can expect good skiing from December even into April (snow can be hit and miss at this time though). Lots of bars / restaurant options both in the village and on the slopes so drinks wherever you go! All ski in / ski out with accommodation ranging from apartments to hotels and hostels. Linked to the Porters du Soleil really well meaning you can ski Morzine & Les Gets also, plus can easily enter the Swiss ski area but be careful of the Swiss Wall. Ski schools are great, ESF always do a good job. Slopes for all abilities and very family friendly. Can get very busy at peak times especially if snow conditions in Morzine arent great.
