Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

The resort is nice but not much elevation change and slopes are leisurely and uninspiring as not very steep

Great place. Ski in/out and great access to plenty of slopes. Decent options within town for food and drinks. Returning in 2026.

IVe been visiting Portes du Soleil since I was a child, and though I’ve lived other resorts I will still choose Avoriaz over and over.

Folie is massive, there are SO many lifts and runs catering to all abilities, and if you need a resturant to visit - L’Passage. Mika and his staff are just superstars, and the food is brilliant every time.

I visited Avoriaz during a university ski trip in 2022. Overall, it is a great resort with abundant snow even later on in the season. Most of the accommodation within the village is ski-in ski-out, which is very convenient. There are plenty of great apres venues, which are easily accessible from the village. In terms of the slopes themselves, there’s a great range of easier slopes and more challenging options, such as the Swiss wall!

We went for the snowboxx festival, Avoriaz is a fun and family friendly ski resort which is very easy to access. It has ski in/ski out accommodation which was convenient.

There were loads of variety for skiing, from wide cruising runs to beginner friendly slopes. Being part of the Portes du Soleil you can explore more pistes across France and Switzerland.

Off slopes there is also plenty to do, bars and restaurants.

Overall it’s a good ski resort

There was no fresh snow at Avoriaz when we last visited but still the best place to ski in that area, les gets and morzine didn't compare. Avoriaz had the best variety of runs.

A nice resort with a good mix of runs for beginner and more advanced skiers alike. We stayed in Morzine and went up super Morzine lift each day, which worked well and I'd recommend. Snow wasn't great in early January, so maybe bear this in mind!

Avoriaz is one of my favourite places in the world, and the best resort I’ve been to. The apres ski is amazing with the open air Folie Douce, as well as a little igloo bar in the middle of the slopes that gets really lovely. There’s also loads of great options for food around the resort.

I really liked how everything is ski-in ski-out, no cars anywhere, and you’re straight on the slopes as soon as you step outside. The ski area is huge, great for cruising around all day, and there’s always something going on in town. Après-ski and bars are a big plus, but it still feels relaxed enough to enjoy properly. It’s not the prettiest Alpine village, but for convenience, energy, and pure ski fun, it’s a really solid choice.

Went with university group
Hadn’t skied before so was out of my comfort zone
Ski school was super friendly and came out of it being able to confidently do blues without guidance and went from no capability to actually knowing what to do.

The Avoriaz site and town itself was amazing. Expected to be more expensive than it was. There was certainly higher end restaurants and shops available but also a nice selection of cheaper food and items available also.

The apres ski and night life was also great and had more on that I had anticipated.

Overall an amazing site

The amount of skiing available is vast, spanning across the French and Swiss alps. Lunch and dinner options are also plenty. Snow can be a bit touch and go because the resort is lower than others but the pistes are always well looked after and snow cannons are used when possible.

I've been to Avoriaz 3 times and it's really nice as you have a village in the middle of the slopes.

There are so many slopes that you can spend a few days with never repeating the same slope. But that is impossible as some of them are so nice you have to repeat the.

The views are amazing and you have the option to ski to Switzerland that is nice.
