Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Skiied Avoriaz many times, great variety in terms of pistes, have the option to go over to Switzerland or go over to amor zone, so big area available. Good ski school options, family friendly with the Aquariaz pool centre too. Views are unmatched, with horse drawn carriages adding set against the scenic back drop, just creates the epítome scene of Alpine culture. Apres ski is decent, not up with the level of Val disere or Tignes, but still has a very good Folie Douce and great bars that do the trick. Restaurant options are good, and again can travel into Morzine by car or taxi if wanting a change of scenery.

I love this resort, there are no cars allowed it’s all horse and sleigh. The runs are great nice and high or lower ones which are tree lined, you can ski to Switzerland the whole resort has a large ski area, been going for years on and off, I would highly recommend it and it’s very family friendly too

This is a beautiful resort and great value for what it is. Being able to ski through the town to the grocery store and various bars and restaurants is so magical. The ski area is huge with access to the whole Portes du Soleil. We went with a group with a mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and there were plenty of runs for everyone.

Nice and high, but gets very busy when snow in morzine isn’t great. Few chalets for groups mainly high rise accom. Less to do in town compared to morzine.

Absolutely love this resort and returned many times. So many options of places to go - morzine, Switzerland, les gets or just staying in avoriaz to ski. Runs are super well groomed and lots of options from beginner to advanced. Areas out of the main town are very quiet so good for trying out new skills!

Our first time skiing with a young child and this was a brilliant place to do it. Lots of options for skiing with us down blue runs with amazing stops along the way like the "little stash", basically a kids park in the middle of the ski run. Tree top bridges, huts, slides, banana swing. It also has a great water park which is perfect for tired days or an afternoon treat, complete with outdoor hot tub to watch others skiing. We enjoyed having some long blue runs with the chance to eat plenty of snacks on the long chair lifts back up. Our first time ski in / ski out (it was a little tricky for our son so didn't always use it). My husband had a wonderful time enjoying the black runs on a very sunny morning. Ski school was handy, a little strict, we thought there may have been more games / fun for them, would possibly look at the other options for next time. Our hotel was awesome, crepes on the balcony most days that we got back and meals / treats throughout the day. We also used some of the restaurants / cafes near the ski school and along the runs, some more expensive than others. It was great to see the supermarkets there too for the option of self catering in a group for future visits.

A nice place for families with young children. A bit tame for party animals, even with a folie douce, the party goes flat when this closes. Most of the restaurants have near identical menus. Many use the same suppliers.
The slopes are nice, you'd definitely want the portes ski pass to enjoy the mountains.
Would I return? Yes, with my young family, not with friends.

I rented skis at the start of the week and boarded for the last two days. The board lesson was really helpful and made me progress to blues extremely fast. The lift pass covered such a large area and apres was incredible. Overall the holiday was not that expressive but felt premium

Great resort for advanced to beginner level skiers - went with the whole family (7 people) and something for everyone. We love the town and the horse drawn carts (and no cars!) and while we were lucky with snowfall and weather believe the skiing would have been good even with limited snowfall. The Swiss wall is a great challenge and skiing over into Switzerland in the rest of the Porte du soleil is a fun full day.
