Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Went just before Easter and was really lucky with the snow as it arrived late. Stayed in Morzine with Hubert at a catered chalet which was fab for solos . Food on the mountain was good with the normal French ski classics done well. Given it was the last week of the season the slopes were quiet until the weekend.

Had a really good time in Avoriaz, lots of slopes for intermediate and beginners in our party, and some nice, smaller runs with trees either side that were beautiful and made a change from big, open runs.
Good selection of lifts, nice resort.

Avoriaz is nestled at the top of the mountain coming up the valley from Morzine - pedestrian only (apart from the odd horse drawn sled to dodge) so everything is ski in ski out. It's purpose built, so it doesn't appeal to those who love the cutesy traditional french resorts, but there's plenty of restaurants, nightlife and of course the ubiquitous Folie Douce to keep you entertained.
Visit Village Les Chevres (if you can find it) for the cutesy lunch vibe, and the tree-lined Combe de Florets run and then all the way on down to the Ardent telecabine for a long leg burning run.
Tackle the Swiss wall if you've got the urge, otherwise sit at the cafe at the top and laugh at all the skiers who think they know how to do moguls. You can always do the chairlift for the lazy way down. It's stomach-churningly enough. Skiing on the Swiss side tends to be quieter, but less snow sure and if easy gentle quiet skiin is your thing, Super Morzine is the spot to go. The resort does get annoyingly busy, especially the lift at the bottom of town, Tour, so be prepared for long waits there. Visit Chez Flo for the best croque monsieur in town on the way for enough energy to wait out the queue!

Honestly one of my favourite ski resorts I’ve visited. Went last year and came again just because we really enjoyed it. The ease of access being ski in and out is perfect and the ability to ski into so many areas.

Lots of places to eat, wish there was more cafes on the slopes! Really enjoyed it and will defo be back!

We stayed in a recently renovated hotel which was just two lifts away from the main strip. Took us 5 minutes to get to the lifts in avoriaz. We found our favourite restaurant and just ate there all the time. We were so fortunate with the weather and snow too - clear skies and fresh snow

Based at the top of the resort, the views were amazing. Atmosphere was great over Christmas. Snow was good and 50/50 mix of low-vis and bluebird days gave a wide range of skiing opportunities. With open slopes and tree-lined pistes to choose from, there was something for everyone. Highly recommend.

We loved Avoriaz. As a family with two teenage boys aged 18 and 13 there was something for everyone. A brilliant snow park and off piste for my 18 year old. Easy green runs for my husband who is a beginner and beautiful, well kept blue and red runs for my intermediate 14 year old and myself. We stayed in a beautiful chalet which had easy, convenient access to chair lifts. Great options for meals, and reasonable prices at local shops. We had a few lessons with instructors from Peak Snow sports who are absolutely brilliant and brought back my passion for skiing. An unforgettable holiday.

Morzine/Avoriaz is one of the best ski/board areas I've stayed in, having visited multiple years in a row. Perfect for couples and groups of friends of mixed abilities looking for adventures around the Portes du Soleil, including trying jumps/boxes in the snow parks and off-piste. There are plenty of amazing restaurants, bars and clubs for lunch breaks and apres.

I had a fantastic time, with great skiing and a great instructor. The weather was fun and we were located really close to La Folie Douce - great for Apres-Ski. I wish I had stayed longer. The chalet we stayed in was placed in the heart of Avoriaz. Lovely hosts and super nice people we shared the chalet with! Great experience. Would go back there.
