Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

After visiting morzine/Avoriaz a few years back I’ve now been back every year.
It’s pretty much exactly what everyone wants in a snow holiday.
Short transfers, great snow, lots of variety, great bars & food, lovely town, easy to get around, decent prices.

Avoriaz was a great resort, i am fairly new to snowboarding as I have only been away once for a week in les arcs but avoriaz was amazing, was not very busy on the slopes in the beginning of april which was great as we were both still pretty new, I took my 15 year old nephew for his birthday he absolutely loved it, good restaurants and bars a great place for people just starting out. Will definitely be coming back.

Avoriaz was a gorgeous car free resort with beautiful traditional ski chalets and buildings. Resort staff were friendly and helpful with a great night life and means of transport late into the night via horse and cart or by snowmobile. The slopes were easily accessible and well signposted, with lots of options for ski hire. we have a wonderful time and I would visit again.

Les Arc or Meribel are better for snowboarders. Average slopes, nothing particularly exciting.
Accommodation was standard. Price was average-high.
Had a lovely boulangerie and a good Spar. Nice fondue place but not as exciting restaurant wise as meribel. Cheaper than meribel though.

We found it was great for kids - like going to Lapland with the horse drawn transport around the resort and everything was really well laid out.

As an experienced skier who had never been to Avoriaz before it was an amazing experience. The slopes were well kept and there was a wide variety of slopes for people of all capability. I went with a group of family and friends, some of us were more experienced than others but we still managed to get around together which is very important. We found a few snowpacks which were very fun and we used pretty much every day. I would 100% go back and can’t wait for my next ski trip

Love avoriaz it’s beautiful but expensive. Amazing to ski in and out but there’s more to do in Morzine and i’d also recommend Châtel which has amazing slopes and is also a part of portes du soleil

Avoriaz is a compact, fully ski-in, ski-out resort. There are no cars in the resort and you can get lifts around town or to your accommodation on horse-pulled sledges or snowcats. There's a Folie-Douce on the edge of the resort, so you can stumble back to your accommodation rather than skiing back. There's a good selection of restaurants and bars, though none were open past 2pm while we were there. Lifts were fast and queues were short in term time. There's a good variety of skiing with wide blues, red runs with moguls and a few interesting and challenging blacks. The wall was great when we were there just after a snow fall, but I've heard it can be icy. There was some lovely powder skiing to the side of slopes and through trees or under lifts. You can ski over into Switzerland with the full Portes du Soleil lift pass.

Literally the holiday of a lifetime, years later everyone still talks about the holiday we had in avoriaz. I took 2 first timers with me (one skier and one boarder) and by the end of the holiday they were both confidently slaying the reds and even managed to safely enjoy some blacks! The whole atmosphere is just magical from the minute you arrive, the powder dumps we had whilst there was amazing!
