What Skiers Say About Avoriaz

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Avoriaz is an amazing resort. The vast amount of area to ski/ snowboard is incredible, when you think you’ve done it all you end up finding more.
I used to go with my husband and now we take our 3 children (2 of which are neurodivergent) It’s so family friendly with more than just skiing to offer. It has husky rides, an indoor swimming pool a bowling alley, ice skating and a cinema. The ski school is central and the dedicated sledging area is too.
Theres literally something for everyone- even if you’re not into snow sports- the view alone is just breathtaking. We absolutely love it and will continue going back every year!

Great resort with lots of slopes when you get the ports de soléis pass. Great powder and as we went just before half term the slopes were fairly quiet, would recommend skiing outside of school holidays.

Brilliant snow covered ski resort. There are no cars so getting around is either by walking or horse and cart.

Full ski in and ski out which is fantastic and if you pay for the extra port du solie lift pass this gives you access into Switzerland as well which provides even more options for skiing.

The nightlife was great and plenty of food options from cheap pizza to high end restaurants. I would highly recommend!

I have visited Avoriaz every year as my friend did some seasons there working in a bar called the place. I think this resort is perfect and offers everything from young people skiing to families and even older crowd. The ski runs at Avoriaz are also friendly to all abilities and range from beginner to expert ski level. The food is all good with a wide range of cuisines on offer.

I've spent around two months in the Portes du Soliel region, split equally between Avoriaz and Morzine, the whole area is reachable from either centre easily, but Aboriaz is more immediately on hand for higher terrain. Whole region is made of great trails but advise most off piste requires a local guide as the area is covered in cliffs! Morzine has Avoriaz beat for cheaper accommodation or classic chalets, and frankly for nightlife, but Aboriaz does more than enough, and is perhaps more family friendly. Relatively cheap for a French resort but doesn't feel like a budget option.

We vsited the first week of January after the schools had gone back and it was perfect. Hardly any queues for the lifts and slopes were in a great condition all day. Typically there was a heavy dump of snow on the last day but the snow cannons had done a great job keeping the slopes covered for the earlier part of our week. Accommodation offerings are for all budgets and there’s plenty to do in the evenings in Avoriaz centre. Make sure to visit the Folie once just for the experience and the Aquariaz pool had a nice lazy river and jacuzzis to unwind in plus an outdoor one. Would happily go back and plenty of easy greens and blues to get your skills up.

We always go to a avoriaz as a family and it has been one of my favourite ski resorts for various reasons - car free resort, accommodation for various ski levels, ski school and apres ski - yes even as a family, we all partake in some apres ski!

The accommodation is great.

Only downside is that temps have been on the warmer side when we went - great because of sunshine but can make runs a bit mushy/icy, however - there is nothing you can do about nature!

All in all, great resort and we will keep on coming back

We go to avoriaz every year, transfer from geneva is one of the quickest in Europe. A good early flight means your skiing in afternoon!

We went just before the dump so the sunny side was getting slushy in the afternoon but thats skiing roulette for you!

Avoriaz is absolutely beautiful, very unique, picturesque place.

Visited some time ago two years in a row and Avoriaz was incredible! Massive amount of skiing available for all levels. A great range of snow parks from child friendly to more advanced and the restaurant choices are fantastic for breakfast & dinner as well as great options on the slope for lunch stops. Apres is getting better and better at this resort and again some great options. It is one of the most unique resorts with the ability to ski through the town shops and get around by horse and sled! Morzine is short ski down and 5min connecting bus and is included in the ski pass! Again the town is fantastic with great choice of various accommodation from catered chalets to hotels and airb&b!

Had a fantastic week barely had to queue for a lift and loved skiing through the town to access shops and bars. The lift down to Morzine allowed us to enjoy evenings there with a huge choice of things to do.

Great resort with many slopes easily accessible if you get the larger area pass. You can do completely different runs every day. Lifts and slopes usually not too busy. Plenty of good food options.

Great resort, something for everyone with snow until late in the season. We visited when it had been warm for a few days and was still good conditions until after lunch.
