What Skiers Say About Bansko

Bansko attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting its budget-friendly pricing for accommodation, food, and drink in town. The resort offers around 75km of pistes with a good mix of blues and reds, though advanced riders report the terrain becomes repetitive quickly. The single gondola from town creates significant bottlenecks, with queues frequently exceeding one to two hours during peak periods and school holidays, leading many users to take taxis to mid-station instead. Most reviewers praise the food scene, particularly in the old town, and describe the slopes as well-groomed when snow conditions allow, though coverage at lower elevations can be unreliable early and late season.

Overall was a really great place to stay. Only downside was the lack of food options, we struggled to get variety and thus didnt give us much motivation

Good resort for beginners, however it is small so if youre staying more than 3 days youll definitely have it all covered.

Went at the end of March and a lot of the resort was starting to close so probably best earlier in the season. Also, some of the snow had gone lower on the mountain so was unable to ski down into the centre. Overall the a small but good resort.

Perfect resort for a cheaper long weekend. The gondola in town can be busy so get there early but we hardly queued for the chair lifts on the slopes after that. A nice selection of blues and reds so perfect for beginner-intermediate skiers. The trees make the visibility great on most of the runs, even when its snowy. We had lots of snow and so great off-piste sections through the trees too. Various food options on the slopes, some more expensive than others. A beer on the mountain will cost you 5 but in town some bars can be as cheap as 2 a pint.

We visited Bansko for two consecutive ski trips. One in march 2021 and one in Feb 2022.We loved the first year for 12 of us. We are all ex seasonaires so just wanted to get back skiing together again but somewhere affordable. Bansko was great! Very good value for money and enough skiing for a week. Second year we went with 24 of us, mixed abilities. It was great, however, the resort was a little small for a group that size. The food was amazing (in the chalet and on the slopes) and beers were cheap! We enjoyed apres at the bottom of the mountain and ventured out to the Irish bar in the evening which had love music! We would definitely return but just not with a big group.

Really enjoyed my time here, half the mountain was closed due to wind but the beginner slopes and most blues were still open which were all I needed. Theres a couple food options on the slopes and loads of options in town. I rented my gear from the place right by the lift which was super convenient, I would recommend. Cant wait to go back

Easy transfers and great accommodation options. We had a beer pump in for evening meal. Was promised 2 double beds and only 1 provided. Food was amazing. Short walk to slopes but min8bus was provided but I never got it. Slopes were very busy but less busy on the more advances slopes. Good range of pubs and bars. Reps prov8ded entertainment like bar crawl and pub quiz.

Great for learners as lessons are value for money. Easy ski area with lots of wide blues and reds. Not a huge ski area so more advanced skiers may get bored after a while but great for a long weekend. Definitely the most affordable ski trip around!

Fun place to ski and après. Very cheap rentals, food and drink. People are nice, a lot of British, German, Israeli and Russian speaking. Slopes are good, maybe a little limited for experience skiers. Would suggest for learning and beginner/intermediate as you can get instructor for super cheap.Busy in season as expected.

Bansko was a really beautiful place, however the people can be quite rude. They dont respect queues so they will always try to skip it, be that to get into the gondola and to get on the slopes. Prices are pretty reasonable and the ambiance is quite nice as well. There are lots of opportunistic ski teachers but Id recommend booking a lesson from the shop where you get your equipment

Bansko is brilliant for beginners, but because of that there are A LOT of beginners which can make it slightly difficult for other skiers in the beginning. Having said this is does mean that more challenging slopes are near to empty and navigating people is easier. We had beautiful sunny weather. The pistes are very well maintained and there was plenty of snow. A good dump of snow too as we left.A couple of pistes had too much powder due to the number of beginners and Im not sure this was great for the snowboarders either, unavoidable perhaps. We tend not to go out in the evenings but having looked around during the first night and walking past during the day to get to the slopes (we stayed at Lion Hotel which we like, its simple with no fluff and the staff are lovely) the restaurants and bars look good and well priced. I will say that the coffee in Bansko is not good! (Although there is one speciality coffee shop Black Honey in the old town which is fantastic) the coffee on the mountain was LV10 (£5) and it was horrible! They sweeten the milk which for us made it undrinkable. Hot chocolate is also expensive but good. The Goat bar was our favourite on the mountain for the view and 180 for the soup and pizza! We had 1 private ski lesson (2:1) and our instructor was brilliant. The company (I forget their name, there are loads to choose from) was very efficient, kind and understood our levels quickly. If you are on a budget Bansko is the place. We managed to only spend £300 each for the week (lesson, massage at the hotel, eating out etc) and we didnt hold back!We love Bansko, its our 2nd visit, brilliant for a budget which we were on!

Great family resort I spent Christmas there and it was great. Loads of supermarkets but not a lot of extras to do. We had so much snow. They could do with a map explaining what there is for familys.

Bansko is a great resort for all levels, with well groomed piste. It is less busy than other ski resorts I have been to. Bansko is the most affordable ski resort in Europe, with hotels around £50/night and meals for around £7 pp. I highly recommend.

The only downfall is the queue for the gondola. The longest we waited was only 20 minutes but it can take as long as 2 hours.

We stayed in the Lion Hotel which was 10 mins walk to the slopes. Great hotel and food was very good. Different options on different nights. Breakfast was very good too and a great choice to choose from. Slopes were great too and not too long a wait for lifts. A great ski holiday and would definitely go back again

Bansko is a small but excellent ski resort which offers a perfect balance of riding & apres ski. By day the mountains are a vibrant & welcoming place to be with an amazing atmosphere for both locals & holiday makers. With good music and laughter all around. By night, Bansko is a busy town with loads to do from dining & relaxing to sports bars and partying. Will definitely be returning in the near future.
