What Skiers Say About Bansko

Bansko attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting its budget-friendly pricing for accommodation, food, and drink in town. The resort offers around 75km of pistes with a good mix of blues and reds, though advanced riders report the terrain becomes repetitive quickly. The single gondola from town creates significant bottlenecks, with queues frequently exceeding one to two hours during peak periods and school holidays, leading many users to take taxis to mid-station instead. Most reviewers praise the food scene, particularly in the old town, and describe the slopes as well-groomed when snow conditions allow, though coverage at lower elevations can be unreliable early and late season.

Great resort, perfect for all abilities. I was a beginner and loved it here! Had a private lesson with Emile from Pirin 2000 ski hire - he was amazing they were so helpful in store too. Nothing was too much!We paid less than £2.50 per 500ml for beer in some places!! Bargain! Plenty of snow too! Had a perfect first snowboarding week!

Its ok for a first time resort but the ski area is fairly small compared to other resorts so if your a competent skier or snow boarder you will soon become bored of the same runs over and over , with 2-3 days you will of had enough . Also the gondola lift which takes you from the resort to the ski area is ridiculously long queues , if your not there before 8.00am be prepared to wait in the queue for 1-2 hrs especially at weekends . The night life is good with many pubs and bars , the food is good with many quality restaurants and the hotels are very good with nice facilitities like spas , pools and jacuzzis . And also the locals are nice people who will help and welcome you . This all adds up to a nice resort which is why people come and which is why it become so busy on the slopes (too small) and the lift queues .

Great location, lots of my friends went recently and said it was excellent value for money. Door to door runs, good food in town. Apres was too far up the mountain however for a beginner.

Decent ski resort however there is only one gondola from the town to the slopes and it is unpractical. Long lines during peak hours with 2 hour waiting time. The line is is unorganised. Once on the ski resort you are found with more long lines disorganisation, the line for the ski lifts are long and there isnt proper queues. People queue anyhow. The slopes are a tad icy but that is due to have busy the slope is.

Avoid the gondola lift between 9am - 11am. Some hire shops offer a fast pass for the lift for 20 bulgarian lev so well worth asking around for that. Very good value for money accommodation, eating out and ski apres.

Just back from out first time in Bansko. We stayed in a catered chalet so can't comment on food options as only ate out once. Queues for gondola in the morning were crazy though, at least 30-45 mins. Luckily our chalet included free transfers up the mountain, but it would have been a nightmare with the kids otherwise as it was -2° most days. For non-skiers to come up in the gondola is still 25 euros each, which is mad. Apres ski not great as only one bar at the bottom of the slopes, and beers are 8 euros! A few other options around but all tended to be very quiet until later. Slopes great for a learners but as ski passes and beer prices are now in line with Austria, I don't think I'd go back. Highly recommend Smart Ski Academy for lessons though!

Enjoyed the trip very much. Big group trip and managed to find excellent accommodation to fit all needs. Wait time on gondola too long. As a Coeliac not many gluten free options.

I really loved Bansko. It's beautiful and really good value. I am normally a skier but I spent some time learning to snowboard here which it was perfect for. Lots of good easier slopes, and as a beginner snowboarder I appreciated being able to carry my board onto all lifts. Great value decent accommodation to be found. It can take a little while in the morning to get the first big gondola up into the area but everything after that is easy and it's a lovely place for a cheaper trip.
