What Skiers Say About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl attracts primarily beginner to intermediate skiers and families, with several advanced skiers noting the terrain can feel limited for a full week without visiting neighbouring Sölden. The most consistent praise centres on empty, well-groomed pistes, minimal lift queues, high altitude guaranteeing snow, and high-quality hotels with spa facilities and half-board options. The Nederhütte is repeatedly mentioned as the main après destination with live music, though reviewers consistently note the resort is otherwise quiet at night with limited bars and restaurants outside hotels. Several users mention the cost is noticeably higher than other Austrian resorts, and a few snowboarders flag numerous flat linking paths as inconvenient.

High altitude (with glaciers) for Austria hence it holds the World Cup opening races every year means its pretty snow sure. Runs down can get crowded like most of Austrian resorts especially end of the day. Limited area so make sure you get the bus up to Obergurgl for a day if you can.

Gets cold earlier on in the season so a bit of deicing required on the lifts, get the first lifts opening. Later on in the season recommend riding till lunchtime when it starts to soften.
Try the Local food, germknodel, strudels and goulash. Don't over do the schnapps at altitude.

Nederhutte is very good got apres, terrain parks are very bassic with no path to progression. Off piest around runs is rather basic however if you have capability to go further from piest it is good. There is a risk of avalanche so be carful. Piest have large range, more basic than advanced runs.

Now reaching more than 60 years of skiing I appreciate the better thins of life. With Obergurgl thats exactly what you get. Picture post card village, excellent range of hotels, real door to door skiing and superbly prepared pistes. Not the largest resort. but nearby Silden is on the same lift ticket and if the doesnt satisfy your desires you are abnormal.
My children benefitted from the excellent ski school and I have had some great tuition for improvement.
I hope have a few more seasons there before consigning the skis to the attic.

Thr Resort provides a near perfect cocktail of quality and perfectly groomed slopes with guaranteed snow , topped off by traditional but modern ski-in/ski-out spa hotels oozing that wonderful Tyrolean atmosphere.

I personally loved the resort. Great value for money and lots of places to stay.
There were lots of various runs and lots of advanced and beginner slopes. My favourite part of the resort is probably the off piste and when I went the powder was just beautiful. However there arent great terrain parks so if youre looking for freestyle riding its not great . Other than that the resort is wonderful and everyone there is really nice

This resort is expensive. Its difficult to have a budget going to this resort as ski hire and lift pass are on the expensive side.
Lifts are quick and efficient but can face some ques.
Apres is fantastic but food and drink on the mountain are expensive aswell as down in the town.
Local buses and lifts to solden are great option for a change of scenery through the week.

Im a decent skier and find the range of runs perfect to take the day as I feel that morning - challenging or an easy run. Only have a small area of park terrain. Off piste is a little limited. Apres ski is usually limited more to the afternoon and not much in the evening. Very good quality hotels, snow, food and the runs and lifts are nice and quiet. Perfect for beginners too as easier areas are open and ski school very good.

Good range of slopes from blue to black. Lifts mainly gondolas, few chair lifts. Great skiing when weather fine, but strong winds close the lifts down. Good snow coverage for late season snowing.

This snow sure (even at Christmas) resort is a joy to go to. The people are friendly and patient with children. There are plenty of restaurants in the mountains for lunch and the food is cheaper than France. All DAY ski lessons come as standard so the adults get much more time to explore by themselves. Going to Innsbruck rather than Geneva or the crowded Chambery is so much more relaxed. Rooms in our hotel Lohman were the biggest weve come across in 15 years of skiing the kids room replete with climbing wall and soft play biffing blocks us also a winner oh and the slide that goes from one floor to another.

Obergurgl is a small village at the end of a valley. Very convenient to get to from Innsbruck (around 1.5 hours drive). Being small and at the end of a valley means that not many day skiers venture this far so the slopes remain quiet. This benefits very short or nonexistent lift ques. This quietness along with great quality accommodation makes me return to this village for over 20 years.

People do come T that the ski area ( just over 100km ) is a bit small. However, with the ski pass also working in Solden ( 15 min bus ride away) there are infinite possibilities!
