What Skiers Say About Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers, with reviewers consistently praising the extensive ski area, modern lift infrastructure with heated seats, and well-groomed pistes. The resort is noted for its charming old town, quality on-mountain restaurants, and vibrant après-ski scene, particularly at venues like The Londoner. However, the low altitude means snow conditions can be unreliable, with many reviewers reporting icy slopes and dependence on artificial snowmaking. The resort is repeatedly described as expensive for accommodation, dining, and drinks, though some find the quality justifies the cost.

Was here early season for a day. Long great groomers, snow was lean at the bottom but still not icy. Fantastic! So much to choose from and the lift lines were quick. Food was great! I would love to come back and spend more time. Mid week, early season so not busy. Bring your fancy clothes and wallet or come with the locals to know where to go

Brilliant for a first-time skier! The town itself had a really good atmosphere and the ski facilities were excellent.

Went there for a few days, overall good quality snow and plenty options for runs of all ski/snowboarding levels.

Mountain has a couple restaurants on top to give good food options and the lifts are very efficient and quick.

Kitzbuhel is a very charming and family friendly resort with a lovely old town. The pistes are well groomed and served by high speed lifts, albeit a bit short and disjointed compared to other resorts of similar scale. Whilst the resort is most famous for the Streif, it was not open when I was there and the other piste are not so extreme or difficult and are very suitable for intermediate skiers. The mountain huts serve very delicious food which I really enjoyed.

My German friends introduced me to this resort cus they used to go there on school trips.

We've gone the last 3 years with a different mix of friends with different ranges of abilities, from the experienced and dangerously competitive to the total beginners. Everyone always had a great time.

Equipment hire and ski passes were good value. The runs were well kept and we were usually quite fortunate to get several days of good weather and at least one day of snow dump.

We'd rent an Airbnb about a 20min drive from the main gondola up. Then drive to Zell Am See for apres.

We enjoyed a 5-day family trip to Kitzbuhel. We stayed at the Grand Tirolia, which provides an efficient shuttle service to the lift area. The hotel is beautiful, definitely worth considering, the spa area and indoor/outdoor heated pool is amazing. It also includes a ski equipment hire and as beginners we found it an ideal option.

Basic beginners skiing can be accessed in the valley, with free moving carpet and button lifts to easy slopes. More advanced slopes are accessed via the cable lift. Kitzbuhel felt vibrant and interesting, but also wasn't overwhelming busy, so as beginners it felt manageable. Would definitely consider returning.

In Kitzbuhel the ski area is huge and varied. There's truly something for everyone. The lifts are modern and run well. The signage is great. The food options on the mountain are also excellent, with genuine quality local dishes. The town is also pretty and well developed. There are good supermarkets, things to do and good shops. A little more family-oriented, no clubs - there is a little bit of that on the mountain. A McDonald's, which comes in handy, but the character of the place is not spoiled.

Kitzbuhel is the Val DIsare of Austria. Very modern lift system, plenty of runs of all difficulties. Big town with plenty of Apres but very expensive in the popular areas. Lots of high street shops. It gets very busy in peak season, especially when the race is on and Christmas and thats when I would avoid as the runs get ruined. Also avoid in the warmer months as snow quality then is not great.

I worked as a ski instructor here for a season. Not bad by any stretch, but overall an overhyped ski resort. World Cup race weekend was unreal, but aside from that, the snow conditions were fairly poor as it is very low lying. Overall, provides poor value for money in comparison to many other European resorts, if high quality skiing is what you're after.

Overall, Kitzbühel is a lovely place with a large ski resort and some of the best lift systems Ive seen.
Looking for the best time for snow, look to go mid January to early February.
The decent down the mountain at the end of the day is what I enjoy the most. If able, you can ski down the whole Streif, but the descent is designed for all abilities.
The range of Alms on display is serious. There are many huts where you can have lunch but the best has go to be Berghaus Tirol. Views here are unbeatable and the Kaiserschmarrn is delicious.
Heading into town for apres take stops at OFlannigans, The Londoner, Take Five and the KitznBar.
Overall Kitzbühel is a 8/10, being let down by its expensive side.

A beautiful resort that has plenty to offer in terms of skiing and evenings old. Great public facilities (e.g swimming pool). Excellent for skiers who are intermediate and advanced. Really friendly people with a classy vibe. Some affordable, boutique family run hotels that are worth considering if you dont go chalet - we stayed in one. Highly recommended! Hahnenkamm is an extra special treat to ski!

Having visited Kitzbuhel in the summer of 2003, we finally got around to arranging a ski trip during February half term of 2005. Thanks to the first lift to last light skiing and the Apres bars, we pretty much didnt sober up for the entire week! But what a week! The lift system has come on by a country mile since then. Almost every lift has been replaced by super-fast heated 8-seaters and, finally, last season saw the final major drag lift (T-bar) replaced on the Ski Safari over to Millersal. The Super Ski pass (rather than the local pass) opens up a plethora of resorts in the surrounding area as well as the famous Ski Welt, a vast area to the north west of Kitz all of which a competent skier can explore easily from Kitz and still make last lift back to Kitzbuhel. A must if visiting is to take on The Streif, the world famous downhill run on the Hahnenkamm mountain. If you visit early February, you will find it in the best condition. Any time before that, it may be shut for preparation for the Alpine Ski World Cup. Fear not though, there is a Red run that trace the piste leaving out the major sections but passes close enough to them to appreciate the frightening prospect that the pros have to face.
Top tip: The Londoner is good; Flanagans is cheaper and quieter (my favourite)
P.S. Love it so much there, my wife and I got married there.
