What Skiers Say About Alta Ski Area

Alta is a skiers-only resort drawing primarily advanced and expert skiers, with some intermediate visitors. Reviews consistently highlight exceptional powder quality and snow totals, often described as the best in Utah. The terrain is predominantly off-piste and technical, with many runs requiring traverses or hikes to access. Reviewers frequently mention minimal amenities, a laid-back atmosphere, and limited après-ski or dining options. Common complaints include high lift ticket prices, outdated facilities, crowded lift lines on powder days, parking difficulties requiring reservations, and canyon access issues during storms.

Skiing here has gotten too crowded. And parking is a hassle unless you want to pay for the privilege.

Alta Ski Resort is a fantastic place for skiers who love great snow and challenging terrain. The powder is unbeatable, and the variety of runsfrom steep chutes to scenic groomersoffers something for almost everyone. The skier-only policy keeps the vibe traditional, and the mountain feels like its all about the sport, not the flash. However, its not a 5/5 for me because the amenities are pretty basic, and it can feel a bit limited if youre looking for a more modern or resort-style experience. That said, if your main focus is incredible skiing in a no-frills, laid-back atmosphere, Alta definitely delivers.

Love love love Alta. Its always such a great time. The altitude gives it nice and light powder, and often more snowfall than the other close resorts. The community is great there and the skiing even better. The runs often seem to not get skied out as fast either due to snowboarders not being allowed and maybe just a lot of terrain. Alta is so fun!

Alta is a bit small for a resort in my opinion but its still quite a lot of fun. There arent too many lifts but theres a lot of places to go that are well groomed or full of powder. Im a fan of the resort but it is a ski only one so my snowboarder friends arent as much a fan of when I go.

Alta is a gem of a resort. I love how it isnt about all of the distractions that other resorts have. Its all about the skiing here. My favorite resort in northern Utah

Alta is one of my favorite ski resorts. There are a lot of fun traverses to get to more secluded runs. Lots of fun lines in trees as well.

I only skied at two ski resorts and they have been Snowbird and Alta and I will say both Of them are world-class resorts. Alta doesnt let snowboarders ride at their resort which makes it less busy. As well as having amazing terrain and awesome storms. Out of has probably the best community of ski resorts in Utah and is very close behind Snowbird in my opinion on terrain, but could go either way. The partying and the people is well as the vibe makes Alta a ski bums paradise with great employee benefits and premiere terrain with cliffs, powder, good grooming, and a plethora of backcountry opportunities. Alta is a top 5 ski resort in the world for me.

Alta is a family owned snowboard and ski resort near my town and I have been going there my entire life. I go on weekends that i have just enough time to run a solid day trip because it's only an hour away. The staff has always been above and beyond with how nice they are to everyone i bring with me no matter how new they are at boarding. I love alta and will continue to go each season.

Alta have some great terrains for everyone. It is overall not as technical as its neighbor Snowbird, but still have some impressive black runs that had me pumped up. It gets the most snow in the 4 cottonwood resorts and its a dream on a powder day.

Fantastic resort for technical skiing. For Europeans, there are very few groomed runs and most run require hiking to reach. Whilst this adds to the excitement, it makes it challenging.

Note, not much to do outside skiing. No town per se with shops and restaurants. Eating out in an evening would be at local hotels.

Ski lifts are sparse and lift passes expensive. But the Skiing makes up for it

Having been an employee of Alta, I have seen and heard it all from my own experience to what those visiting also experience. With only 5 lifts, the groomed terrain is good but only about 15% of what Alta has to offer. Being up Little Cottonwood Canyon, there is great snow and so many tree runs and off trail runs available. Many areas do require a traverse or a hike to ski, but it can help cut down on the number of people in one area at a time. There is a good amount of easy terrain for those who are not hard chargers yet but there is so much steep terrain available when youre ready for it. With only a few hotels up at the ski area, there is a lack of night life but thats not why you go to Alta. The snow at Alta is the best Ive ever skied and why Ive made the choice to work there.

Alta is a great ski only resort. Terrain is technical and the snow is generally always good because snowboarders dont ruin it. Less people too
