The Skiers' Guide to Alta Ski Area

Alta is the best of the best in every way! Our most favorite place in the world! The snow is the best, the people are the warmest, and the views are spectacular!

Alta is a world famous for a reason. Great runs, great conditions. No shortage of difficult terrain if you’re looking for a challenge. Great culture at the resort as well. No snowboarders is a huge plus!

Alta is for skiers. Continues to be their tag line. There's more to do than there used to be the slopes shut down. Though Alta doesn't really care about that. On a powder day it shines like no other resort. And if you must spend some time shopping and pursuing then a short shuttle ride away you'll find Snowbird. Alta's claim to fame is that it remains largely unchanged. Rustic lodges and a small nomadic population of ski bums creates a slower pace not found in the likes of Park City, or Telluride or Aspen. Dumping snow? Don't go outside. The canyon is famous for storm driven avalanches. You might get stuck inside until the all clear is sounded. Highly accessible from wherever you are, land at SLC and 50 minutes later you can be on the slopes. Don't forget your snorkel.

Skiing at Alta has always been my favorite, but this year they managed to seriously disrupt my vacation. There are no clear signs indicating that parking requires a reservation and payment. Instead, staff come around, record license plates, and leave fines on windshields. This approach is unacceptable and creates unnecessary frustration for visitors.

In addition, the snowmaking process is poorly organized and not strategically placed on the slopes, which negatively impacts the overall skiing experience.

Outsanding snow conditions and terrain, beautiful views, decent base and food options. Traffic and transit getting in through the mountain passes is the real challenge here.

Went to Alta using the Mountain Collective pass as part of a bigger trip. Alta was great with free buses going up and down the mountain frequently so didn’t have to worry about parking. This is one of my favourite ski resorts and the off-piste is amazing.

I had a ton of fun at Alta, went with friends who work there. They took me down a ton of glades trails. The powder was great, the terrain was fun and challenging. We skiied all day an i felt i got my moneys worth!

Alta is one of my favorites although ski only - good or bad depending on how you feel. Personally it's a nice change of pace from all the snowboarders sitting mid-hill. Incredible runs and the connection to Snowbird up top is great if you have an Ikon pass. Really feels like a massive mountain with great snow, grooming and solid lifts.

This and Snowbird are hands-down the best resorts in the US. Best powder, great runs, just can’t beat it. Access to the canyon and parking can be a mess but if you can make it there, it’s so worth it.

Awesome skiing, excellent snow, many challenging runs.Will go back as often as possible. Only drawback, Utah is a dry state.

If youre a good skier and like having a good time, Alta is for you. Best Après in the Wasatch, cheap beer, great energy, fun people!

Snow was in the best shape of the 3 Utah resorts we visited in January. Great variety of slopes. Easy access to the slopes via the Ikon pass. Great patio for wrapping up the ski day. Fabulous hot chocolate on the hill! Easy parking.

It has a been quite a few years since I have been at Alta and forgot what a great mountain it is. The skiing was excellent even after 5 days without new snow. The grooming was better than I expected as well. The best part is the moguls were made by skiers only and not all chopped up like it was at neighbouring Snowbird. Shows you what allowing only skiers does for this great mountain

One of the greatest resorts in the West! Amazing snow and terrain options available from beginner to extreme! Completely amazing!

This is the benchmark in the us. I compare all ski experiences to Alta. It lived up to the hype. I enjoy the skier only environment. We just use the mountain differently. Being able to cut in and out of snowbird is nice but everything you need is at alta

Alta is famous and lots of people love it. Old school through and through. Been skiing there since I was born in Utah. No snowboarding!

My go to resort in Utah. I love the snow quality. Too bad that Utah is a dry state, no alcohol. But the skiing is fabulous, the powder is very light and the lift tickets are affordable.
