What Skiers Say About Blue Mountain Resort
Blue Mountain is Ontario's largest ski resort, located within two hours of Toronto, and attracts a wide mix of families, beginners, and intermediate skiers alongside some advanced riders. Reviews consistently mention efficient lifts, well-groomed runs, and a lively village atmosphere with dining, shopping, and après options. However, the resort faces recurring criticism for weekend crowds leading to long lift lines, frequently icy conditions rather than powder, and high prices for tickets, food, and accommodation relative to the terrain offered. Advanced and expert skiers note the limited vertical drop and short runs compared to true mountain resorts, though many acknowledge it as the best option in southern Ontario. Several users mention good snowmaking infrastructure but warn that conditions deteriorate quickly under heavy use.

Due to its location there aren't many powder days in a given season but most runs tend to be well groomed. There are a good variety of runs from beginner to black diamond, although the more advanced routes don't really match up to big mountain skiing.
Beginner - Intermediate runs are busy and there is often a long wait at the main lifts.
Off Piste + Glades - There are some opportunities to leave the trail, cut through the trees and possibly even find some fresh tracks, however due to the smaller size of the resort there are not a lot of these opportunities.
Terrain park - Gets the job done and usually has a few neat features to enjoy.
Ticket Prices - expensive for what you get.
Ski School - Adequate - only experience was with a toddler who made good improvements over only a few sort hours
Ski Rentals - Inefficient, slow + expensive. lost several hours waiting in lines to pickup and size equipment properly. Shortage of seats to get ready. Minimal storage options for personal belongings.
Lodging - lots of accommodations, including ski in/out, village lodging, nearby cabin or condo rentals, etc. Options in the village are often expensive and not well kept but offer a good amount of space for small families or groups. Unfortunately, due to the large volume of gusts that come to Blue Mountain all season the resort gets away with high prices and low quality regarding their accommodation.
Food - Not many good choices food in the village. Most, if not all, options are expensive and poor quality. Great opportunity to put in better quick serve and high-end dining options. Unfortunately, due to the large volume of gusts that come to Blue Mountain all season the resort gets away with high prices and low quality regarding food options.
Night Life - It's been many years since enjoying the nightlife at Blue but I would guess that a good time can be had, especially on weekends.
Family + Other Activities - There are a lot of options for families of all sizes. There is relatively easy access to snowshoe, crosscountry and snowmobile trails, tubing, indoor/outdoor heated pools, shops, spas, etc. There's usually entertainment in the main village square and Blue often hosts ski, music and other events that attract good crowds.
can get busy times but lots of slopes to ski
The lift system is efficient most of the time, though it can get busy on weekends and holidays. Getting there early definitely helps. The village is a big plus—plenty of places to eat, grab a drink, or relax after skiing, which makes the whole experience feel more like a mini getaway.
It’s not a massive mountain compared to western resorts, but for Ontario skiing, Blue Mountain delivers a solid experience with good snowmaking, a lively atmosphere, and convenient amenities. Overall, it’s a reliable choice for both casual skiers and those looking to sharpen their skills close to home.
