Heavenly is a sprawling ski resort spanning peaks in California and Nevada, rising up from the south shore of Lake Tahoe.
The views of the lake are unequalled, and for that alone Heavenly is amazing.
Heavenly has it all: plenty of long groomers; powdery bowls; shorter and extra-long mogul runs. If your legs are intact at the end of the day you can ski down Gunbarrel, a double black mogul run that drops you at California lodge. There are quieter, forested runs, especially on the Nevada side.
It can be a little tricky to get your bearings at first but you can stick to the California or Nevada sides without getting bored until youre ready to explore.
I dont think its the best place for beginners, mainly because so many of the lifts dont service any beginner terrain. That said, my kids learned to ski here from age 3. They got competent pretty quickly.
Food service isnt great on the mountain; they actually ran out of food in the early afternoon during spring skiing several days this year. Bring your own food!!
There are tons of lodging choices, from high end right at the base to budget options across the street.

I found that there was a great variety of runs. The area is stunning and there are so many accommodation choices. It is
an easy drive from San Francisco Airport .
When we were there we only had a dusting of snow so I couldn't comment on the powder skiing, however the pistes were well groomed and we enjoyed the lifts being much faster than when we visited Kirkwood.
We found the lifts there to be much older in general and not high speed like most of the lifts a t Heavenly.
There was a good beginners area for those skiing for the first time.

Heavenly in lake tahoe, amazing resort, best place I've ever skied in, great wide pistes, tree lined runs, fantastic views from the top, just brilliant. Town itself, California side very nice, not loud but bars and restaurants good, five minutes walk Nevada side wild clubs casino's bars, party time. Would definitely recommend this restaurant 100% amazing.

This resort offers so much more than skiing or boarding. This local area has all the amenities that you need for a ski resort. Nightlife is also a plenty.

Once youve learned the lay of the land its awesome, but for beginners it can get confusing. They do their best but staff shortages and large crowds equal chaos on weekends or holidays. Staff is friendly but like most major resorts catered to old white men.

It is a great resort. Vast and expansive runs overlooking the beautiful Lake Tahoe. It is beginner friendly and family friendly as well.
There are two sides of the mountain on California and Nevada.
The Nevada side is more advanced than the California.
The only main issue is that the sides are mainly connected by one single chairlift. Therefore, whenever there is high wind, the chairlift stops rendering the mountain sides disconnected which creates a lot of chaos and limitations.

Heavenly has excellent grooming and views of Lake Tahoe. However, if you find yourself on the wrong side of the mountain, when the wind hold, happens and lift shut down, it can make for a long day getting back to your accommodations.

It takes a lot of patience dealing with Heavenly. They are short staffed which results in some chaos. Once youre up on the mountain, its a little smoother but they just need help, consistency and better signage and enforcement of line rules.
