What Skiers Say About Heavenly

Heavenly attracts skiers and snowboarders of all levels, from beginners to experts, though several users note limited green terrain and challenging navigation for first-timers. The overwhelming consensus centres on exceptional Lake Tahoe views from the slopes and a large, sprawling resort split between California and Nevada sides. Reviewers consistently mention good intermediate and advanced terrain, quality tree skiing after storms, and efficient modern lifts, though wind holds can disconnect the two sides of the mountain. Common complaints include high costs for tickets and food, crowding during peak periods, flat traverses between areas, and variable snow conditions in low seasons.

This is my home mountain. It has amazing views you can’t get anywhere else. The skiing is fun when it’s not busy. Lots of tourists ski here. This is not a beginner friendly mountain.

It was our first time skiing when we went to Heavenly Ski Resort. It was nothing short of amazing. We booked lessons the instructor was very kind and dedicated. We learned a lot for a very short (2 hour) class that we felt confident enough to do runs on a bunny hill. We went back this December and we were able to ski the bunny hills even better and felt like we were finally getting good at least. There were a lot of beginner friendly areas. I highly recommend this place to beginners especially their ski lessons.

for being a really slow season, they have done a good job making snow and have limited runs open. With that said those runs are very crowded. I think they are doing a decent job trying to alleviate some of the stress of this.

Been to Heavenly twice and had a great time both times. Good runs and not crazy busy. Did a single snowboarding lesson to help technique and ended up being the only student so got one-to-one instruction, which was nice. Looking forward to next time I can visit.

Heavenly has one of the best parking situations in Tahoe, and while this might seem a moot point, it’s very important. As if there’s no parking you can’t get in to some of these places. Heavenly is divided into Nevada and California. There’s plenty of room, and although one of the more popular ski resorts. If the entire mountain is open it doesn’t feel stuffy. However, if you’re on the most popular runs with the views. Then those chairs and runs are extremely packed. Terrain park is great, and has a lot of big jumps. There’s a couple of different spots to eat on the mountain. And South Lake Tahoe has a bunch to offer.

I really love heavenly when the snow is good. The expert terrain all around mott and killebrew is suitably challenging and hosts a wide variety of cornices and jumps and certainly the Y. Pistes are clear and wide with some great tree skiing in the middle with lifts that when there is snow are kept open very often and rarely fail. Staff are incredibly friendly and will always help kids getting on the lifts. Great resort for gnarly terrain chasers and family trips!

Nice variety of runs, lift line wait fairly short (weekday) Good choices of groomed runs. Biggest downside is cost of lift ticket

First, the cons.
Heavenly's lift placement makes many of their lifts susceptible to wind holds.
Getting around the mountain can be tricky. There are many long traverses.
If you just follow the trail map, this large resort skis smaller than its size.
The beginner runs are sort of limited, narrow, and spread out or separated from other beginner runs.

Next, the pros.
There is a good variety of intermediate through expert terrain.
The tree skiing is great. It is amazing on a powder day.
If you know your way around or are fortunate enough to follow someone with local knowledge, the off-piste skiing is also fantastic.

One more bit of advice. Don't forget to look up while you are skiing. The views of Lake Tahoe are also pretty good.

Skied Heavenly 7 days straight in March - 2 storms came through dumping almost 3 feet of snow! I stayed on the Nevada side at Holiday Inn Vacations and primarily skied the Nevada side. The lift lines were leas than 5 minutes. Tree runs are fantastic - great spacing and variable pitch. Hotel and Heavenly shuttles were easy to use and frequent. Cant wait to go again.!

Good resort if you're an newer to average skier/rider who wants the option of the South Lake Tahoe night life. Known for long groomers, Lake Tahoe views & a few good bump runs. It's sorta cutup & getting between the California side & the Nevada side takes time. So plan your day accordingly. It's an easy drive from Reno & parts of California and accommodations are plentiful. Enjoy!

Love skiing Heavenly, the views are unmatched by the other Tahoe resorts Ive been to. Definitely beginner friendly but has a variety of terrain, Ive frequented Heavenly for my first two seasons skiing and love that I can always find a trail that will fit what I want for the day - an easy trail to just cruise and enjoy the view, one that will challenge me, or one that will absolutely whoop me. It can be a challenging mountain to navigate mostly because of sheer size but if youve gone a few times its not too hard to learn how to get around. I do wish that signage was better in some areas, particularly in regards to groomed vs ungroomed trails and areas where trails of different difficulty intersect - my husband and I have found ourselves on a black diamond when we are definitely still in blue territory in terms of skiing ability.

I am here now the fourth season, now as a skiing instructor.
Snowmaking is superb, very important in a season like this current one. As well as grooming, corduroy every morning.
So many slopes to choose from and something for every level.

Heavenly is a large resort and when they get snow there is room and Terran for everyone. There has not been enough snow lately for good off groom trails. Heavenly did finally start making snow on Gunbarrel last week, I am not sure why they waited so long. We are starting to get snow again but the snow levels are high, hopefully by the end of this week the skiing will be very good.
