What Skiers Say About Zermatt

Zermatt attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders seeking well-groomed pistes, efficient lift infrastructure, and high-altitude reliability. Reviewers consistently praise the extensive terrain, modern gondola systems, scenic runs with Matterhorn views, and the car-free village atmosphere. The ability to ski across to Italy (Cervinia) is frequently highlighted as a major advantage for varied terrain and cheaper dining. However, the resort is repeatedly criticised for high costs across accommodation, food, and lift passes. Several reviewers note limited beginner-friendly terrain, with blues sometimes feeling more challenging than advertised, and mention that lower runs can be narrow and congested, particularly at weekends.

Love the village, the scenery, variety of skiing, mountain and village restaurants, the Matterhorn of course and the history regarding Isobelle climbing it.

Zermatt is an amazing Verfall amazing Resort- the village is full of life and always something happening.
There are plenty of slopes and even more if you get the ski pass that allows to go to Italian side as well.
I will say there arent great options for beginner skiers as most slopes even the blues have tricky parts- cervinia has better slopes for beginners.
Skiing on the glacier is the most amazing thing and being able to see the Matterhorn is truley a memorable experience.
Overall definitely worth a visit there really is no where like it however it is obviously an expensive place.

Been here a few times and it is hard to see past it. Stunning scenery, great variety of runs, long runs with huge vertical. Most amazing neverending run down to Valtournenche in Italy. Not the cheapest but the best!

Zermatt is a skiers paradise! Epically long runs, efficient lifts, not overly crowded. The town is picturesque and chocolate-box perfect. Not the cheapest of resorts, dining out and drinking is expensive compared to Cervinia on the other side of the Italian border. However, gong to Zermatt knowing this, try not to think about it and enjoy a luxury experience - its expensive, but super high quality. The best skiing is definitely when the link to Italy is open - including one of Europes longest runs from the top of Matterhorn Glacier Paradise all the way to the bottom of Furi in the village below - a thigh burning 15kms and over 2500m vertical. Be sure to stop in at Hennu Stall or Cervo for first class Apres-ski.

Zermatt is great for skiing when you're a beginner, as quieter than other resorts. If you're looking for luxury and a more civilised apres ski - this is the place!

Pros - Beautiful village with a great setting in the mountains, good options for eating out, shopping, and bars. Ski lifts not too busy and large ski area with well maintained runs, gets a fair amount of snow and temperatures are low enough. The glacier at the top of the ski area is amazing!Cons - Very expensive restaurants and shops, especially with exchange rates for the swiss franc. The ski area not as big as some other areas e.g. The 3 valleys ski area.

Been twice - could go again and still find new places to explore not even including the Italian side. Amazing lifts, views, varied terrain, village, on mountain restaurants and apres. Easy to access via trains direct from the airport. Easy transportation to the mtn via the bus in town.

Great resort -But beware about lift times, some shut as early as 3pm and the lift can take 45 min - 1 hour from town to the top.

Very scenic runs below the matterhorn. High resort with good snow quality and lots of off piste routes some even noted on the piste maps. Fast lifts and trains although mostly cable cars. Some of the longest runs in the alps. Town is pretty but expensive, pass is cheaper if staying on the Italian side.

Wonderful resort in a charming pedestrianised town. But very expensive. You can get the same quality of skiing at more affordable prices elsewhere.

Not many tree runs at all here, but otherwise no complaints! The runs do seem to run narrow compared to many of the resorts Ive visited. Apres at hennu stall was one of my favorites ever! The town has lots of food and drink options and is easy to get around. Was my first time skiing abroad (from US) but would highly recommend!

Ski in Zermatt three times and loved it everytime. There wasnt enough snow when I went to do proper off-iste but that did not stop me from enjoying the groomed piste that were not icy. Nothing beats the après-ski at hennustall and eating at the various mountain restaurants.Bonus points for the car dree village
