This ski resort provides a solid on and off-piste experience for those looking to explore beyond the groomed trails, and the ski school is staffed by friendly, competent instructors ideal for beginners and intermediates. The variety of runs and good facilities make it a reliable choice for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Overall, it's a great destination for a winter sports vacation.

If you are looking to ski rather than party; if you are looking for scenery rather than looking for "scenery"; if your are looking for late season snow rather than pastures green then Tonale may be for you. Yes it has its bars and as with other Italian resorts, these are lively at 4/5pm but quiet by 7pm- after that the drinkers head to the hotels to carry on. But as for the skiing- fast chairs clear the queues at the nursery slopes ( which are great for the youngsters and beginners) - but then there are some good cruise worthy reds on the south facing slopes, but more challenging slopes of all colours on the other side, where the glacier peaks at 3000m. Slopes are quiet even when the schools are in town. When the snow is really good, there are some great longer runs and you can get amongst the trees as well. Good intermediate and advanced skiers can find plenty to amuse themselves on and off piste. Generally Italy is cheaper than most places- and this applies to restaurants on the mountain and below. I've been twice and fully intend on heading back again.

I visited in April as the lead for my school's snowsports trip. We used the ski school whose office is next yo the trauma centre, they were excellent. There was a lot of snow for the time of year, but with the warm conditions it was best to ski before lunch. Tbh the slopes at pontedilegno had already closed for the season, but those that tried them last year really enjoyed the tree runs and the increase in difficulty compared to those up at the tonale pass. There didn't seem to be a lot of are ski. Apparently there is a music festival up on the glacier in February that is not well publicised. We use this as a pretty good snowsure late season destination and I'd recommend it for family and school groups.

I was there a couple weeks after a snow day and tell the snow was just ice in one side of the valley. But the town is great and lost of variety of slopes.

I stayed in Passo Tonale at a great family run/ friendly hotel on the outskirts. Good bus connections. A trip up onto the glacier at 3000m is a must, it has good blacks, reds and an easy blue. A good value for money resort with a varied amount of skiing for all. If you buy the extended pass you can ski in a few nearby resorts (own transport/ taxi.)

This is a fantastic resort, frequented by the locals as well as groups from all over Europe (lots of accents). Lots of options for ski schools and accommodation (ski bus will bring you up from the lower towns if you decide to stay out of Ponte di Legno) Activities like snowmobiling also available up in Passo Tonale. Friendly atmosphere all round. Family oriented in sections too (kids park with little snow bikes for them to sit on and slide as well as helping them go learn to ski). Lots of different pistes to sink your teeth into as well as a Glacier. As well as a fun park and race park to see how fast you can go. Lots of nice shops too, ski shops and clothing and souvenirs. Got to try Bombardino - absolutely amazing drink that Id never heard of until we went there. Definitely go back here.

A resort that is busy at weekends with locals and school children. Plenty of choice of slopes for beginners and intermediates. Extensive off piste but limited black runs for advanced riders. Plenty of uplift mainly chairs and gondolas. Resort at 1884m so high and reasonably snow sure. South facing slopes can become gloopy late morning early afternoon in warm weather like last week (16/3/24).
