La Thuile Review Summary
La Thuile draws a mix of families, intermediates and advanced skiers who consistently praise the quiet slopes, lack of lift queues, and well-groomed pistes. The resort connects to La Rosière in France, expanding the ski area, though the return involves a long drag lift that many mention. Reviewers frequently note good snow reliability due to higher elevation and north-facing slopes, along with affordable Italian restaurants both on and off the mountain. The main recurring criticisms are limited après-ski, dated or slow lifts, and challenging home runs that can be steep or icy for less confident skiers. Several users mention the resort suits those prioritising skiing over nightlife, with accommodation centred around the Planibel hotel complex.

The steeper runs, blacks 2, 3 & 5, are a proper challenge. La Thuile is also linked with La Rosiere in France, which has a much different aspect and layout. These runs are nearly all South facing and wide open. Don't miss Fontaine Froid, my favourite tree lined run there, just check it's open as it can suffer from lack of snow.
Snow sure, cold pistes that are north facing as well as south facing ones give you lots of options. Plenty runs for beginners and intermediates to progress on and also good reds and steep blacks to challenge the experienced skier.
Only draw backs are two long button lifts coming back from La Rosiere and the runs back to resort base seem to be either black or red - download by gondola is recommended for those tired at the end of the day.
Plenty of off piste, but advised that you must have full kit if you are venturing away from groomed runs.
Good rental and ski clothing shops, I had a great ski service at Berthod, bases and edges like new. Delis and supermarket for those self catering with good choice.
Ski school and playground for kids is in an easily accessible area at the base . Village centre is a 10 minute walk from the piste with some interesting shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. There is also a large car park for those visiting for the day
I have stayed in the resort twice and would definitely go back again.
Plenty of blues, reds and short easy blacks. Also ski La Rosiere in France although there is a very long drag lift back to La Thuile. Chair lifts are bit dated and slow need updating !!
Al in all a very pleasant resort.
The runs were clear and well groomed at the beginning of March. A lot of the shops were easily accessible and again provided much better value for money than what Id seen in France the week before.
The picturesque skiing in the trees in.
Couple of hours to transfer and everything you need at the hotel.
Slopes empty and lovely reds- even better, blues simple and easy for beginners and our new skiers were caning it by end of the week!
Food and drink reasonable- espresso under 2 euros!!
You won't be disappointed!
Ski school instructor Andrenia great has huge knowledge of local area .
Cafe just up hill from pharmacy brilliant value and friendly gets busy as locals use daily
La Thuile has few bars but definitely doesn't have the apres ski you'd find in a busy Austrian resort such as Solden but costs are much cheaper. Empty slopes and snow sure means it is very much worth looking at.
My 2 nephews who were beginners were flying down the blue runs after a week in ski school, which should tell you all you need to know! And an espresso was 1 euro 50 on the slopes!!
We will definitely be returning! Perhaps not as cheap as some resorts but we'll worth the extra, you won't be disappointed!
