What Skiers Say About La Thuile

La Thuile draws a mix of families, intermediates and advanced skiers who consistently praise the quiet slopes, lack of lift queues, and well-groomed pistes. The resort connects to La Rosière in France, expanding the ski area, though the return involves a long drag lift that many mention. Reviewers frequently note good snow reliability due to higher elevation and north-facing slopes, along with affordable Italian restaurants both on and off the mountain. The main recurring criticisms are limited après-ski, dated or slow lifts, and challenging home runs that can be steep or icy for less confident skiers. Several users mention the resort suits those prioritising skiing over nightlife, with accommodation centred around the Planibel hotel complex.

La thuile remains the best ski resort I've ever been to, less crowded than many of the more popular resorts, particularly those in France, making it easier to get on lifts and actually get in runs without waking up at dawn. Food is fantastic (it's Italy!) and the whole place is perfect for families. Accommodation choices are limited but perfectly good, planibel being the main place to stay, but air bnbs and smaller hotels in the area do provide good alternatives. Quality of snow has always been acceptable to great when I've been there (feb-march) and there is a good range of runs and difficulty levels across the mountain. If you get bored try skiing across to France and spend the day in la rosier or driving to one of the other resorts along the Aosta valley. The only two downsides of la thuile are a lack of nightlife and that it's difficult to get to without renting a car.

Family-friendly resort with good mix of runs for all abilities, plus heli-skiing for the really hardcore. Nice range of mountain bars and restaurants and lots of good places in town. Accommodation available right next to the lifts. Only gripe is that some of the lifts are a bit older and slower, but you can also ski over to La Rosière in France - if you don't mind the long button lift back... Close enough for a day trip to Cormayeur if you're there longer than a few days. Accessible from either Turin or Geneva (via the Mont Blanc tunnel).

Great snow! A great mix of runs offering a bit of everything to all types of skier. One of the best beginner runs and progression I have come across perfect for families and school groups. Can ski over to France and back as long as you dont mind a long drag lift. Lifts system is a little dated but hardly ever any lines. Lots of options to eat in the mountain and hotels in village. Nightlife is a little on the quiet side, more suited to families or people just there to ski.

A great mix of terrain available for skiers or boarders, mellow blues and steep blacks. There are tree lined south facing and north facing slopes so you can pick your options on sunny or snowy days. Linked with La Rosiere in France which has a different kind of style all together. Plenty of good food and drink options on the mountain and reasonable prices. The home runs can be tricky for intermediate level or below but the efficient gondola can get you home. Not much spares in town but if that's something you are looking for you can find it.

This was my first and only resort for many years, where I first fell in love with the sport. The ski school options here are incredible, with passionate and experienced leaders. The runs are perfect to find your confidence quickly and grow as a skier. This truly is a family focused resort with incredible food options, some great accommodation and brilliant access to the region.
The skiing is exemplary with some challenging runs back down into the resort making for a brilliant end of day blow out. Up the top the views are unrivalled and access over to France for more diverse slopes.

Came here as part of the aosta valley pass for a day. Great snow as its on a bit of a plateau. Windy and the lifts are older style so not the quickest. Links onto La Rosie re for extensive ski area. Really nice runs and variety of pistes. Views also lovely. Maybe not the resort for a week holiday, but great to ski for a day or two. Overall would recommend.

Amazing ski area with variety of slopes. Very quiet in comparison to more popular resorts probably due to lack of apres ski bars.

I was there for a week and there was a great dump of dry powder that lasted a good few days and we didnt run out of off piste to ski and we continually found new exciting places to ski off piste, however the tree skiing didnt feel very accessible however there was a few pockets of trees where the snow was very deep and was fun to ski.
As for the groomed runs the conditions at the top and middle level the snow was freshly packed and very nice to ski but the lower levels where a bit icy but this wasn't a big problem because there was lots of blues gradually going down the mountain which where very easy to get down even with the ice.

La Thuile May not be the biggest or flashiest resort out there but for value for money and how quiet it is, it ranks near the top of the list. La Thuile Is one of the best family resorts out there, with runs of all difficulty being up on the hill instead of at the bottom like most resorts. There are a good spread of the 3 different grades used in Italy meaning there is stuff for everyone. One thing the La Thuile resort does lack is off piest areas and runs being virtually none aswell as there being no terrain park.

If you are looking for a great value option for you and your family I would definitely recommend La Thuile.

Spent 8 days in La Thuile and it became one of our favourite places we have skied. The terrain is fantastic and the restaurants on the mountain are equally good. Great to see plenty of independent restaurants still around. The après is limited but there, however it makes up with an amazing selection of restaurants with great value.
