Have gone here several times, have practically grown up here. Lovely ski resort, slopes and people. Highly recommend!

Quiet resort but can ski over to Valloire. A hidden gem which is not overly busy.Ski lifts are quick and never much queuing. Apres ski is quiet, there is a bowling alley, but a resort for those who love to be on the slopes rather than off them.

I have been skiing Valmeinier for the past 15 years and it's a firm favourite. Off the beaten track and not frequented by many British skiers, you'll find a mostly french resort with incredible value accommodation options, mostly self catering apartments and in Valmeinier 1800 the majority is ski in/out or less than 50m from the slopes. Ski area is large across 3 mountains and 2 resorts of Valmeinier and Valloire. Valloire is the better option for quaint french ski town, think a mini Chamonix, it's a town all year round with churches and schools, a proper community. Whereas Valmeinier is the convenient purpose built ski town. Groomed slopes are fantastic, easy to clock up the miles getting around the whole area. Sometimes the link to Valloire can feel a little protracted, takes several lifts to get over there but getting back at the end of the day is much easier. Loads of wide open red and blue slopes across the area. An intermediate paradise. Advanced skiiers might find it a little lacking in black slopes or off piste terrain. It's not perfect for beginners but there's enough easy slopes to get them going. If it's your very first time on skis, maybe look at a ski area with a larger dedicated beginner zone. Valmeinier has one but it's small and can get busy. Val d'Isere and Meribel aren't facing any competition on the Apres ski front! There's some nice bars in town and one. "Discoteque" so there's something, but if the main priority for you is nightlife, look elsewhere. If you want somewhere that offers incredible value accommodation, fantastic intermediate piste skiing and somewhere to grab a few cheap pints, Valmeinier might just be the best place you've never heard of. I must have been more than 20 times, and will happily go 20 more.

Plenty of skiing at Valmeinier & across to Valloire. Had a great 3 weeks in January and plenty of options for eating out/Apres for a medium sized resort. Great value & would recommend without hesitation. Didnt use the ski school but watched them on the slopes & looked very well organised and fun for the kids. 20 mins drive to Orelle cable car into 3 Valleys which is a great option.

I've been going to Vallmeiner and Valloire since my son was a few weeks old, he's now 20. It's high, reasonably extensive, the lift passes are a reasonable price compared with elsewhere. Both villages aren't far from the autoroute. There's a wide variety of accommodation, so all in all it ticks many boxes as a good choice for a family skiing trip.

I enjoyed my trip to Valmeinier. We stayed half board so I cant comment on the eating out etc for evening meals but there are plenty of great spots for lunch at the base of the resort and a fantastic bar higher up with stunning views over the alps. There are bars and activities for evening entertainment which we enjoyed. The runs were good and there was a good mix of blues and reds. The main slope back down to the base of the resort is a little steep so would be trickier for first time skiers. However, your Valmeinier lift pass gets you access to Valloire which really made the trip. The skiiing on that side of the mountain is far more extensive and there is so much more to explore. There is a much bigger variety of slopes on that side with lots of beginner friendly slopes. Valmeinier a smaller resort in comparison to some of the other more reputable ones in France, however, I really enjoyed our trip and would recommend it.

I worked in Valmeinier in 2016, at which point I had never skied or boarded; I am now very good at both, and while I've hit a few resorts (~5 resorts per year), I have done ne valmin every year since. It's incredible, and being relatively unheard of, it's quiet. Really does cater for all levels of rider, with the greens being long and flat, the reds being wide & varied and the blacks / off-piste bring best suited for those who crave a challenge. My partner isn't interested in off piste & I am, but that's no issue as I can get plenty of (almost) back country & tree runs without straying too far away. 160km, 2 nice towns & a cracking little village with everything you need, including an epic nightclub.
