Have gone here several times, have practically grown up here. Lovely ski resort, slopes and people. Highly recommend!

Quiet resort but can ski over to Valloire. A hidden gem which is not overly busy.Ski lifts are quick and never much queuing. Apres ski is quiet, there is a bowling alley, but a resort for those who love to be on the slopes rather than off them.

I have been skiing Valmeinier for the past 15 years and it's a firm favourite. Off the beaten track and not frequented by many British skiers, you'll find a mostly french resort with incredible value accommodation options, mostly self catering apartments and in Valmeinier 1800 the majority is ski in/out or less than 50m from the slopes. Ski area is large across 3 mountains and 2 resorts of Valmeinier and Valloire. Valloire is the better option for quaint french ski town, think a mini Chamonix, it's a town all year round with churches and schools, a proper community. Whereas Valmeinier is the convenient purpose built ski town. Groomed slopes are fantastic, easy to clock up the miles getting around the whole area. Sometimes the link to Valloire can feel a little protracted, takes several lifts to get over there but getting back at the end of the day is much easier. Loads of wide open red and blue slopes across the area. An intermediate paradise. Advanced skiiers might find it a little lacking in black slopes or off piste terrain. It's not perfect for beginners but there's enough easy slopes to get them going. If it's your very first time on skis, maybe look at a ski area with a larger dedicated beginner zone. Valmeinier has one but it's small and can get busy. Val d'Isere and Meribel aren't facing any competition on the Apres ski front! There's some nice bars in town and one. "Discoteque" so there's something, but if the main priority for you is nightlife, look elsewhere. If you want somewhere that offers incredible value accommodation, fantastic intermediate piste skiing and somewhere to grab a few cheap pints, Valmeinier might just be the best place you've never heard of. I must have been more than 20 times, and will happily go 20 more.
