What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

Such a brilliant resort. Because it’s so high up the conditions are perfect, and you can finish a great day of skiing with some of the best apres in the world. Alternatively the restaurants in the town are fantastic too. Friendly place and great skiing. Id recommend

Fabulous ski week of good recent snow and sun. Got lucky with perfect weather. Pistes were fantastic. The Orelle bowl was a delight. Much quieter then VT. Option to get a extra lift pass for the 3 valleys not taken but have done it in the past and really easy to do for more tree runs into Menuires or St Martin. Overall would defo return.

Skied with club med. Full weeks guide showing off the best the resort had to offer. We had fresh snow and the runs and the off piste were great. Being one of the highest resorts snow held well and was not bad for thaw and freeze which lower resorts are more prone to.

Val Thorens has reliable snow and a great atmosphere. Because it’s so high, the snow is usually reliable, although it can be very windy at times and this can lead to some lift closures. There’s plenty of choice for ski-in, ski-out accommodation, which makes everything really convenient. For me, the après-ski is a real highlight, with lots of bars to choose from. Something to bear in mind is that the blue run down from Folie Douce can be a little treacherous at the end of the day when it’s busy and chopped up if you are not a confident skier.

There had been no snow for 20 days and a wind storm had blown lots of snow away, but- the pistes were in very good condition regardless. Going over onto the Orelle side was like going to a different resort; there was so much snow. Being connected to Méribel and Courcheval was great and we upgraded our passes for the whole 3 Vallées but Val Thorens is so big we would have been fine staying there for the whole week. My favourite run was Pluviometre- a blue. It was fantastic and we did it every day.

Fantastic resort, so easy to navigate round, well connected and sociable.

Did a fondue night followed by a night time ski with flame torches which was a great experience- definitely recommend doing if you get the chance. Was lucky enough to see fireworks going off in the mountains when we were at the restaurant which was awesome.
Apres ski is also fab, bar 360 is just wicked!
Would definitely return.

Val Thorens is a great resort. Guaranteed snow, huge ski area, lively apres bars any day of the week and an all around good time. Most accomodation will be close to a slope, giving easy accessibility to the pistes without long walks or bus/lift transfer. It is fully above the tree line, so most runs are long and open groomers, with a solid park with a wide variety of features.

The only thing to note is that when bad weather comes in, they will close all access to the surrounding areas and sometimes the higher lifts, leaving only a small portion of the ski area accessible. So when booking passes, make sure to check the weather as a 3 valley pass may be useless!

A great family resort with a super efficient lift system. Not the cheapest resort but a huge ski area if you include Meribel and Courchevel. A massive amount of different runs, and a great place if you have a group of mixed ability. We used ProSneige for private lessons and Lionel, our instructor acted more like a guide, taking g is to places we would t have gone. Highly recommended!

This is a great snow sure resort. There are plenty of options for accommodation and ski schools are great. Our children learned at prosneige and the instructors are patient and very friendly.
It can be expensive during peak season but if you persist you can be lucky and find good last minute deals.

Second time in Val Thorens, best holiday I’ve been on both times. More than enough skiing to do with the 3 valleys pass so you don’t get bored of the same runs, exciting apres and many restaurants and bars to choose from on the slopes and in the resort
