What Skiers Say About Val Thorens

Val Thorens attracts a wide range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with many praising its high altitude for snow reliability throughout the season. The resort is part of the Three Valleys, offering extensive terrain and well-maintained pistes with efficient lifts and minimal queuing. Après-ski is consistently highlighted as lively and energetic, with popular venues like Folie Douce and Bar 360, though some note it caters more to a younger, party-focused crowd. Most accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, and reviewers appreciate the variety of runs, though several mention that food and drinks are expensive. Beginners note limited green runs and that many blues can be challenging or icy, while advanced skiers praise off-piste options and access to neighbouring valleys.

I went on a university ski trip with my friends, it was amazing I had the most amazing time, we found some cheaper places to eat to keep it affordable, but went to a few nicer places for special nights out. The club was so much fun especially with friends. There was a lot of variability in places to stay, cheaper places if you are on a budget that are still close to the slopes as well as nicer chalets for families or people willing to spend more money. The skiing is amazing, one of my favourites to ski, lots of runs of different levels, beginner friendly as well as runs for more experienced skiers, also well connected to other resorts for more extensive skiing. Apres was absolutely amazing one of my favourites, amazing atmosphere and easy runs to ski down from after a few drinks. Overall I would recommend highly for younger skiers on a budget as well as for families.

VT is a great area to ski for all abilities, there is Km of green and blue runs for beginners but then loads more red and black runs for the more experienced. The Apres is unbeatable great vibes and would recommend the 360 bar. Night life in VT is amazing for those british beers and drinks The Frog is great for it with great staff. The whole resort has loads of dine out facilities along with ski shops and a free bus service getting you around if you dont want to make use of the Ski in and out facilities. For the ones who smoke there is also a shop in the centre that sells all that stuff along with plenty more shops for gifts and ski gear. All ski lifts and magic carpets are high quality sometimes with ques but never more than a 2-5 min wait.

Val Thorens was an unreal experience. The amount of piste was unmatched and the snow was incredible, offering a great variety for all ski levels.

The quality and efficiency of the lifts during a busy period (over new years) was excellent.

The apres was good fun especially La Folue Du. Food was expensive on the mountain but drinking wasn’t too bad.

Would highly recommend and will be back.

Great resort with a wide range of excellent runs for both snowboarding and skiing. There is a good choice for all skill levels and a lot of the runs have plenty of space and don't seem to get too overcrowded even when there are a lot of people staying at the resort. The apres ski is great with a good range of places to visit and also some good food venues and restaurants that are fairly reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Awesome week! The ski area is huge- plus has lots of off piste options! Always snow sure, you won’t have a bad week.

Ski schools are great- ESF have fab instructors including off piste guiding. Apres is dangerously good- you could lose days if you enjoy too much!

The only downside of going to Val Thorens is that you later find it incredibly difficult to think about going anywhere else. If you get the full pass then the access you get across the Three Valleys (and beyond) is unprecedented, and gives you a focus for the day. It’s also so vast that it’s not crowded on the slopes, yet busy enough to feel energetic and vibrant. There is always scope and space for getting dinner and going for drinks, and the village area is perfect for a morning croissant and provisions for the day to having a range of options for replacement gear. That it’s so snowsure is so reassuring, and forgiven when you might lose a day/half-day to a blizzard - making it all the more exciting to get out the next morning. I love it there.

Have visited Val thorens 4 times because it is one of the highest ski resorts in Europe which means higher chances of snow and better skiing conditions and longer ski seasons. It is also the biggest ski resort as part of the three valleys offering lots of variety of piste catering to different levels of ability that you won't get bored. It can get crowded during certain periods like Christmas week and it takes about 2-3 hours for airport transfer 1 way. Great apre ski scenes especially at La folie duece. val thorens itself doesn't have any trees as it is situated sbove the tree line at over 2000m in altitude so you will have to go to the lower resorts of meribel or couchevel if you want tree lined piste.

My experience with Val Thorens is one that I will not forget any time soon. I had never been on a ski holiday before but it was amazing! Our accommodation was the perfect location to ski straight out of. The ski lifts are very easily accessible and it is very easy to access all the runs. I will absolutely be coming again.
