Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Had great fun while here and traveled with family of all skill levels, I was the only snowboarder with the rest of skis, everyone had a great time and were some great runs. The beginner area was easy but unfortunately was quite busy as it was the run to the main lift so was busy with both beginners and advanced riders. Higher up the mountain it got quite icy but overall great runs all the way down. There was also a sled track from the highest point of the mountain all the down which was amazing fun and great value for money. There was a decent amount of restaurants/bars that all sold decently to high priced food. There were a couple supermarkets including a spa.

Fantastic family friendly resort, but so much for the advanced skieers too best demonstrated by the infamous Le Face (previously used in the 1992 Winter Olympics) and bellevarde slopes (used for the Alpine Skiing World Cup)

Après ski
There is a great selection of apres bars to choose from, here are a few not to miss:

1. cocoricovaldisere - set right at the foot of the main chairlifts out of town, you get unbelievable Mountain Views as the sunsets and love bands and DJs set the night on fire!
2. lafoliedoucevaldisere - set in the heart of the mountains, we all know about the reputation the Folie Douce bars have - this lives up to its reputation, get their from 1pm
3. lepetitdanois - a place many people will be heading to after @cocorico - live bands which are always fantastic and importantly its indoors to protect you from any bad conditions

I love this place. One of the best! The ski runs were first class and facilities were very good . Plenty of food outlets on the resort and in the town and the food was A1.
The town was very easy to get to as only 10 minutes walk from apartment . A local supermarket was also very close to our accommodation .
Plenty of very good restaurant's to chose from and the food was very good ,prices were as expected considering the location.

This resort has by far some of the best skiing in Europe - there is a huge connected area with fantastic skiing for all levels, from nursery to expert, off-piste and everything in between. The lift systems are quick and modern, and the routes between resorts can be done by bus in a pinch.

The downside to this resort is price - the cost is becoming inhibitive. We thought we'd be smart by staying self-catered in La Daille (which is connected) but the local supermarket was insanely expensive, and the only place to buy from - three meals and some basics costs us around 200 euros. Sadly for that reason we probably won't be back - it's no fun when you're terrified to order food anywhere!

After spending 3 ski seasons in France, I can confidently say that Val d'Isere offers enough for experienced skiers to ensure that they aren't tired of options. From high glacial skiing in Spring months, to deep powder valleys in the middle of season, to freshly groomed pistes, Val d'Isere offers it all.
