Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

Val d'Isère can be posh, but it also fun and good place for families and a good place to ski on snow days as there are plenty of places to go skiing in the trees.

Huge ski area, and one of the most snow -sure results in the Alps. Excellent facilities and has everything you need for an up market ski holiday. It isn't cheap, but you are paying for a top class luxury experience.

We had an amazing trip and was staying close to the resort it is only a shot walk to the mountain or there is a free bus that you could get to the olympica gondola which was very useful. The conditions where amazing when we went, it was the first week of January. There was no ice all powder all the staff where very happy and relaxed that where on the lifts. There is also so many photo opportunities and signs to take pictures with, the range of apres ski is a decent amount highly recommend

The most complete resort Ive ever been too.

The best snow in France with awesome off piste and tree runs. Fantastic groomed slopes which are very steep.

Best apre Ive ever experienced with fantastic food and accommodation options.

Not great for beginners due to steep slopes but intermediates will have lots of variety due to the huge size of the resort.

Not the best for familys.

I spent 5 weeks in Val D'Isère and it was honestly amazing. There a great range of restaurants and places to eat food! I highly recommend PDs, especially the kebab wrap!! The après is good, plenty of good bars and clubs, especially COCOs! Very family friendly resort with a good range of slopes and easy access to other resorts such as Tignes! Theres a good ski park and plenty of powder!

The slopes cater to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers, with well-groomed trails that provide a thrilling adventure. The ski instructors were knowledgeable and patient, making it an ideal destination for those new to the sport.

The resort amenities were top-notch, offering cozy lodges, delicious dining options, and a relaxing spa to unwind after a day on the slopes. The staffs hospitality added a welcoming touch, enhancing the overall stay.

The resort is very large with it being connected to Tignes. The skiing area is massive and the off piste/back country is great , probably the best Ive been to. The lifts such as Mont Blanc lift was a little dated, so was the Grand Huit and Aiguille Percee lifts but other than that the resort is great for families and vacations. Also, the resort had plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, and activities which appeals to all backgrounds and people. The skiing was very good and the groomed slopes were awesome, however because it was a bit busy, the slopes got chopped up which caused a lot of moguls. Overall a very good ski resort which I will definitely be returning to :)

I genuinely think Val dIsere is the best all round resort in the Alps.

With the combined ski area with Tignes, there is so much skiing that the average group will struggle to ski it all in one trip!

There is also ample off-piste and powder skiing. Ask about Le Valeé Perdue for a really fun and unique experience!

Apres is fantastic - Cocoricos is my favourite bar in the world, with live music every night and a great atmosphere. Wear your ski boots. If youre more into non-specific dance music and sequins, La Folie Douce might be more your thing.

Val dlsere is where its at. We stayed in an apartment with ski in ski out facilities, something that I do not take for granted. The pistes were excellent and cannot be faulted. There are plenty of food outlets dotted around the resort, however we found them a bit out of budget and did not make the most of them this time around. Overall would highly reccomend if looking for a well rounded ski resort for families or just a group of friends.

Such an extensive range of mountain ski runs for all abilities. Garenteed due to the height snow and fantastic views.
Wonderful restaurants and bars from the very lively to the family home cooking. Ski school for all ages and abilities, lots of apre venues including a public pool included in the ski pass. Lots of hotels, self catering apartments to choose from.
Blue skies, clear slopes and great snow awaits.

Super overrated resort particularly when weighing Cost : Value.

All restaurants and bars are unsurprisingly very expensive. Supermarkets not a great deal better.

If staying in the town centre the mornings are dirt as there's only two key lifts to get out onto the slopes and the queues are fierce (particularly since the Brits are the only who really adhere to it). Slopes back into town aren't accommodating to less advanced skiers - reds and blacks.

A great family resort, albeit can be quite expensive if you dont know the right places. Amazing ski school facilities and also lots of challenging black runs to keep everyone happy! Lots of lovely hotel restaurants that arent too pricey.
