Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

A bit more on the expensive side but the size of the espace killy ski area really gives you some great options and variety each day.

Definitely worth making a trip over to both glaciers and exploring further afield than the central Val DIsere area.

For apres hard to go wrong with coco ricos good beer music and vibes in there. Then can always take it out later with a good range of bars and clubs too.

Great Ski resort for new and experienced skiers.
Huge ski area, twinned with Tigne to make up the Espace Killy, the pistes are wide (so theres plenty of room on the slopes even when busy) and the runs are generally all pretty long so you can spend less time queuing on lifts.
The resort itself is quite expensive (most ski resorts are to be fair) but there is plenty of accommodation for a variety of budgets. Likewise there are a vast array of eating options which again vary based on how much you would like to spend. The nightlife is all very vibrant, the apres ski is always very busy with plenty of bars and clubs that remain open until the early hours.

I spent 5 months in Val DIsere, we always had snow in that time and apart from maybe 1 or 2 weeks was always top quality. The off piste options are pretty broad especially if you are into ski touring as then a whole new part of the resort is opened up to you. The aprés is pretty much unmatched and always busy from the start of season till just after the easter holidays.

Val DIsere is the pinnacle of French skiing. It is such a vast ski resort covering 3 different areas and a whole host of abilities are catered for. Its altitude almost guarantees its snow quality.

The mountain restaurants and apres are great. Cocos is where you want to head after the day is done.

There is a leisure centre with a gym, pool and spa if you would prefer that after skiing.

The town is bustling and packed with the finest bars, designer shops and restaurants.

The base of the resort is at 1800 m so it is really snow-sure and has a long season. Huge area with a wide variety of terrain. Lots of off-piste is accessible from the lifts or you can go farther afield if you want to ski tour. The lifts are really quick so you can get a lot of vertical in. However, it is a really popular resort, so it can get really crowded during the holidays. The accommodation is pricey too.

We travelled as a large group of experienced adult skiers. We wanted to heli ski for the week but unfortunately the heli company was closed. We decided to hire an off listed guide for the week. We used Oxygen ski school and they were great. The guide was very professional and took us on all the off piste terrain around Val disere. We were lucky and had a big snowfall the precious days so there ws plenty of untracked powder to be skied. Overall great skiing, plenty of advanced terrain and a good lift network to get high up on the mountain. The town is lively and plenty of apres bars (cocoricco and volle douche were the best). Food was great but tends to be quite expensive to eat out. Average £30-40 for a main course in a restaurant. Overall a great resort and 100% visit again due to the choice of terrain and off piste options .

Ive been back here 3 years on the run I couldnt fault it if I tried. Great variety of slopes across the vast resort, very welcoming lift staff, beautiful scenery, well maintained lifts & slopes, second to non aprés ski & very easy to navigate.

I have only been to Val dIsère since 2019 (previous skied in courchevel 1850). In comparison to the 3 valleys, val dIsère is a great place for 18+ with great apres ski and nightlife. Although, regarding slopes, the 3 valleys has a wider range of slopes for all abilities, with courchevel having plenty of tree runs as well.

Ive spent multiple seasons in Val dIsere and I absolutely love it. Its massive with a great variety of runs at all difficulties and plenty of off piste to explore. The only downsides are the lack of good places to eat on the mountain and also the general price of absolutely everything.
