Val d'Isère Review Summary

Val d'Isère attracts predominantly intermediate to expert skiers and snowboarders, with many reviewers noting the extensive ski area (particularly when combined with Tignes) and high-altitude, snow-sure terrain. The resort is consistently praised for its après-ski scene, especially venues like Cocorico and La Folie Douce, and the quality of piste grooming. Beginners report mixed experiences, with some finding suitable runs at altitude but others noting that routes back to the village are red or black, requiring gondola access. Nearly all reviewers mention high prices for accommodation, dining, and lift passes, though most consider the overall experience worthwhile despite the cost.

AWESOME! Plenty of skiing for everyone inc skiing over to Tignes valley- probably not the best resort for beginner skiers but plenty of variety for everyone else with plenty of challenging runs and off piste terrain.

In my opinion 100% the best après ski resort in the French Alps!

Very Diverse Slopes, can ride to different areas at different ski levels due to route options. Excellent apres and good food choice through the slopes. Minimal tree riding but still good slopes other than that

Great resort, lots of places to hire skis. Runs were great. On a clear day the view was absolutely breath taking. We had a couple of days where the weather was bad however the resort gave us a partial refund for the lift pass which was a bug bonus. Hats off to the resort, we had a great time.

With its rich array of slopes, exceptional snow record, and lively village ambiance, Val d'Isère stands as one of the eminent giants among all French ski resorts. This charming village, known for its sophistication and world-class ski terrain, forms part of the Espace Killy ski area along with Tignes. Would highly recommend it!

Great resort with a vast ski area, le fornet is great for powder fields and skiing across to tignes for lunch is a pleasure.
Some very nice bars and restraints, Le Petit Danois is always lively and Le Garage is a great dinner location.
The Apres at Follie and Cocos are great fun and compete with Val Thorens as some of the best in France.

For over a decade, Val d'Isère has been my go-to destination, and it never fails to deliver. As an expert skier, what sets this resort apart is its unparalleled terrain variety and challenging runs. From the technical steeps of La Face de Bellevarde to the adrenaline-pumping off-piste routes in the Fornet area, there's always something to push your limits.

The snow conditions are consistently excellent, thanks to its high altitude and modern snowmaking infrastructure. And lets not forget the legendary après-ski sceneLa Folie Douce is a must for anyone who wants to celebrate a day on the slopes with energy and style.

The resorts charm extends beyond the slopes. The village manages to blend traditional Alpine aesthetics with a vibrant atmosphere. The local restaurants serve everything from hearty Savoyard classics to fine dining, and the lifts are modern and efficientrarely will you waste time queuing.

For expert skiers, Val d'Isère offers more than just runs; it offers an experience. Every season I return, and every season I leave with stories of new challenges conquered and memories that keep me coming back. Whether its carving fresh tracks in unspoiled powder or navigating the famous Tour de Charvet, Val d'Isère consistently raises the bar. If you live for skiing and want a resort that matches your passion, look no further.

Doesnt get much better then ValdIsere when it comes to being a world known resort, from the downhill slope in le face to apres in coco ricos, ValdIsere have everything in between. Although expensive and transfer from airport is a long drive. However Chalets offer easy to book transfer via bus and plenty of options for cheaper expense with neighbouring resort in Tigne which also provides top quality ski itself. Val disere is a must and so well received everyone and there mum will be there at some point in the season. Do le face first thing or prepare for an icy decent later in the day, sache down to le brevieres in my opinion is one of the best runs in the world if looking for a challenging/fun run. Folie douce is also there, what else could you want.

Very nice place to either ski or snowboard,
Lifts are modern and user friendly. Throughly enjoyed my time here, slopes are well maintained, la folie douche is always buzzing though in a slightly inconvenient place if youre staying in Tignes as if you dont catch the gondola youre forced to pay a 70 euro taxi or wait for an hourly bus. All the restaurant staff and friendly and a good selection of shops for souvenirs or ski equipment.

Arguably a resort with some of the best combinations of groomed skiing, powder skiing, ápres and high speed lifts in Europe.
Powder skiing is easily accessible and abundant, as is ski touring routes.
Its connection with Tignes and variety of high speed lifts mean you can cover enormous amounts of terrain (over 400km of groomed slopes) and easily find quiet slopes and lifts with little to no queues.
Its ápres ski is some of the best in the world with the likes of La Folie Douce and 2 Cocorico Venues on your doorstep.
It includes a variety of restaurants from relatively cheap eats all the way to 2 Michelin star dining experiences available for lunch and dinner options.
Accommodation is not the cheapest but visiting such a gold standard resort has to have its costs.
Arguably one of the best resorts in Europe for skiing all day, having a knock your socks off lunch or dinner and then partying until the sun comes up
