La Plagne Reviews & Ratings

We had the best time, staying at MGM La Plagne and having lessons in the mornings. A really good variety of accessible slopes for beginner/intermediate riders, although not the best/most accessible “baby slopes” I’ve ever seen. I wish we were going again this year, the snow looks amazing.

I learnt here and it was great for an adult beginner. Ski schools were super helpful, and there were lots of nice green and blue runs to practice on. Had lots of snow in March too.

I stayed in Champagny-en-Vanoise, a beautiful alpine village that is great for a quieter, more authentic alpes experience , with plenty of places to eat and drink in the evenings. It is quieter, so not as great on apres as the more central villages like Belle Plagne and Plagne 1800. Accommodation is very affordable here compared to those at a higher altitude. From here it is very easy to get to the main slopes of La Plagne, by taking a 5 minute cable car from the village.

Snow conditions were good at the top of the gondola when we were here but not at the village level, so unfortunately we couldn’t ski back down to the village, like you normally can with good snow fall. This just meant we had to get the gondola back down in the afternoon.

The piste skiing in La plagne is incredible. You can ski for over a week and still have more to ski, especially with the Paradiski pass which allows you into Les Arcs via the Vallandry express I think it’s called. The pistes are well maintained, and you are pretty much garunteed snow. When the weather is bad, there are plenty of tree runs catering for all abilities at lower altitude, but these can sometimes become icy and are much narrower than the higher pistes.

The fun parks are great, with jumps and challenges for all levels. The ski schools are also great, I recommend Oxygene, they were great for me when I was younger.

Overall an excellent resort for everyone. Has something for families, friends, couples and more. I do highly recommend staying gd in Champagny-en-vaniose if you are not too bothered about the nightlife or apres, as it was absolutely stunning, with views of Courchevel and La Tania.

Stayed here while I worked at an on- mountain BnB, unfortunately the snow was not great that month but there's good terrain and fun après ski.

Great resort, lots of choice of ski runs (blues, reds & blacks with a sprinkle of some greens).

We went to La Plagne as a group of dads with our kids. The ski area is exceptional. It’s large, has a good mix of runs although they do lean towards blues rather than reds. The bars and restaurants are very good but expensive. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

La plagne is a destination I will certainly go back to, large piste map area covering a huge variation of runs with a high elevation for snow sure all season. Some decent parks, off piste and border cross. What’s not to love

La Plagne isn’t just a single resort. It’s vast and made up of lots of smaller villages all connected by the slopes in the day and buses in the evenings. Add the fact that it’s part of the enormous Paradiski area (linked by cable car to Les Arcs) and you will never run out of slopes of all varieties over a week skiing. Outdoor party apres is great at Plagne Bellecote. La Mine bar in 1800 has great live music. Belle Plagne has lovely tucked away bars and restaurants. Plagne centre has a brilliant luge run and just below La Plagne is the Olympic bobsleigh run. Top tip: if you plan to head over to Les Arcs go first thing. It’s a full day skiing to get over there - cover some ground and get back to where you need to be. Think about heading back to the cable car not long after lunch otherwise you risk missing the cable car into the right valley and then the subsequent lifts back to your village. Loved it so much we are going back in Jan 2026. Can’t believe we hadn’t been before and easily compares with the other high altitude massive ski areas like Val d/Tignes and Portes du soleil

This was our eighth trip to La Plagne. It's unbeatable for the size of the Paradiski area combined with the variety of skiing both above and below the tree line. You can ski a different part of Paradiski every day, if you like clocking up the miles on piste like we do. There's a few bottleneck areas for lifts but out of peak holiday times you never have to wait long.

La Plagne obviously has great terrain, with plenty of variety. Star ratings are a bit tough to choose because the experience obviously depends on conditions, so I tried to imagine the experience in better conditions than I had, quite late in season. At the time I went, off-piste was still ok, and I can see how stunning it would be with better snow. That said, you seem to need to be higher and higher for the best snow these days. Like in all the big French resorts, you pay through the nose for terrible accommodation, but do so for the quality of the terrain and access to Les Arcs. Accommodation is almost always bad, but I have to say, the apartments in La Plagne deserve some sort of prize for ugliness! Definitely not the place to go for picturesque alpine village photos! My priority is the skiing, so I was happy, even with barely any fresh snow. There’s so much to choose from, especially off the highest cable cars. Lifts weren’t too bad, even in school holidays, so maybe a little better than 3 Valleys for crowding… although there were some long jams for the cable cars.

Lovely wide runs perfect for mixed ability groups, lifts generally quiet once you’re up in the mountains. Annoying uni student groups but soon lost those during the day. Great resort, snow pretty much guaranteed. Wouldn’t recommend bothering with Les Arcs, save your money for coffees in the sunshine ☀️

La Plagne itself is really beautiful with a range of slopes. One pointer we would have that despite not going in UK half term, it was packed with children so the chairlifts get very busy. I would definitely check when the French half terms are (they vary depending on the region) as well as the UK holidays.

Took a group of 30 students to La Plagne a week before half-term in February. We stayed in Plagne 1800, which was a good base for exploring the mountain. The snow was well prepared, if rather icy, especially on the run home where the blue and red runs had very icy sections which caused some problems for less confident skiers.
The glacier was not open on about half the days we were there, but when it was the snow was very good and runs not crowded.
There is so much accommodation on offer at La Plagne, which is probably why it was a lot busier than La Thuile in the same week the year before.
I would consider this resort a good one for beginners and intermediates, with a massive choice of good blue and red runs. There is less here to challenge the expert skiers on Piste. Off-piste, I cannot comment on, as the snow was not conducive.
I really recommend having a go on the Olympic Bob-Sleigh Run and also the tobogganing down the mountain from Belle Plagne (setting off at sunset with torches strapped to our heads).
All-in-all, we enjoyed our trip to La Plagne, and it is good for school trips, family holidays with runs for all. For the expert skiers, I recommend heading across the valley to Les Arcs for the day, as there is more for them there.
I would not come here in the school holidays, as it must be ram packed.
A four star resort for me in the snow we had, and maybe five in the off-season.

Great spot for a ski in ski out hotel with some lovely fresh powder and well maintained runs and some good apres ski.

Great resort for off-piste if you have a guide. There are plenty of blues and reds to cruise around on but best skiing is with a guide off-piste. Massive ski area which is connected to Les Arcs.

Spent a week here with a local instructor exploring the off-piste. There are some great routes, the North Face of the Bellecote being a highlight. Lots of options though, we were able to find something to ski - trees, open faces, couloirs etc. to suit the changing conditions.

The original custom ski resort, great for beginners and wide wide pistes. Very family friendly, price wise good for France..

If you dont mind the dated design and aging Accomodation, well worth it as a destination for families especially with small members.

Very large ski area, plenty for everyone.
Avoid if you can the school half terms.
The app was great to see the busier runs and what was open.
