What Skiers Say About La Clusaz

La Clusaz attracts primarily families and intermediate skiers, with a significant number of beginners learning on the Beauregard area. The resort is consistently praised for its proximity to Geneva airport (one hour transfer), authentic French village atmosphere, and excellent restaurant quality both on and off the mountain. Reviewers regularly mention minimal lift queues, friendly locals, and terrain suitable for progression. Common criticisms include limited runs for complete beginners beyond the nursery slopes, low altitude leading to unreliable snow on lower runs (especially late season), repetitive terrain for advanced skiers staying longer than a few days, and minimal après-ski compared to larger resorts.

La Clusaz is a home from home. Friendly, quiet during the week and a wide variety of skiing from gentle beginner slopes on Beauregard to exacting off piste in the La Balme Area. Which being North facing retains good snow even if there is not much elsewhere. Spreading your wings a little there is some great touring and hidden off-piste gems. Within an hour or so from Geneva airport it is the ideal resort for a short weekend ski trip from the UK. And if you can ski all it has to offer in a few days you can use the bus service to get to Le Grand Bornand for some variety. If you have a car then nipping over the Aravis pass will get you to La Giettaz which is your entrance to the Portes de Mont Blanc Ski Area and Megeve. See you there in 25!!

I've been skiing and boarding in la clusaz for 35 years and it's a hidden gem not usually on the radar for the British skier.not many holiday operators list the resort and catered chalets have all but disappeared. Which does mean it a very french resort with a low key apres ski mainly focus on eating out in the many restaurants in the village,Candide Thovex has a bar in the town centre popular with the younger crowd.
Easily accessible from Geneva airport, about 1hr away, regular bus service from aravis transfers, or an 8 hrs drive from calais,
Spread over 5 mountains with 270 km of runs there is something for everyone, the main area is Balme,at over 2000m is snow sure all season,a good range of red and black runs but is better know for it's incredible varied off piste,
L etale, beauregad, croix fry, merdassier, Aiguille, make up the rest of the resort with a good range of reds ,blues and greens.
The village is fairly low at 1100m but extensive snow making keeps the the links open late in the season,
Good choice of ski shops and the usual ESF ski school and a private school are available and easily accessible from the centre of the village.
Blessed with some of the best restaurants in the alps in the village and on the mountain ,spoilt for choice from snack bars,Savoyard restaurants and Michelin star establishments.
I can't rate this resort highly enough having worked seasons here and still visit several times a year,we don't want to shout to loud about how good we are as it is a hidden gem

We went at the very tail end of the season with minimal pistes open however had a fantastic time the snow was fantastic and slopes well maintained , all the locals super friendly and bars and restaurants were brilliant, if you are looking to hire skis and equipment Id recommend Equipe 74 sport 2000 on route de grand alps, the staff were super helpful and really looked after us.

It it peaceful in places but has a great atmosphere in others. Its fun for family and the ski school are always super friendly and caring for all abilities.
Everything for the restaurants, to the bars, the lifties to the local taxi team is just faultless.
I have not had a bad experience there.
The views and the lakes make this place extra special.

Ive only been to La Clusaz once for a long weekend. The ideal place to go if flying into Geneva. The transfer was about an hour and half so not long at all. In February it was difficult to find slopes with good snow on because they were having a shortage at the time with a few runs being shut. You do have to get the bus to the main lifts but its not that much of a hassle really. Typically we found the best run of the weekend on our last run so I would definitely recommend going to all areas if there for a short time to make sure youre skiing on the best pistes. The town is small but very nice with some fantastic restaurants. I would definitely go for a long weekend but I think it would get a bit boring if you are and experienced skier and there for a week.

Barely any après on/close to the piste. Where there are bars in the town, they are small and have no party atmosphere - difficult as I know it is more of a local resort rather than a party place.

I have been skiing in La Clusaz for 20 years. Its definitely a family oriented resort, but with a bit more going on than its neighbour Le Grand Bornand. Along with the heritage of some freestyle skiing - as the hometown of awesome freestyle skiers such as Candide Thovex.

The Ski map is an interesting one, the best way to ski it is as a big loop, since some areas cant be doubled back on, but it can make for a day that feels like a bit more of an adventure. The Massif de Balme is where to head for the best snow when conditions are not so good, as it is a particularly high area, with views of Mont Blanc from the top! (Well worth a visit!) This area also has some great ski touring and off-piste routes when the conditions are good.

The mountain restaurants are good, there are both self service ,and some particularly good table service options. The après ski is nothing like St Anton or The 3 Valleys but there are a couple of spots which are trying to make more of a name for themselves. Still definitely more of a family oriented resort though.

The Resort is around 1 hour from Geneva airport, and a short 30 minute drive from Annecy train station. Geneva is the best option for ease of access.

Overall La Clusaz is a fantastic resort for a family holiday with a great range of skiing and an upmarket feel, at a lower price than some of the bigger name French or Swiss resorts. It lacks a little on the après front compared to some resorts but the skiing is great and you wont get bored in a week! Especially with neighbouring Le Grand Bornand so close by - An easy outing to mix things up for 1 or 2 days in the week.

The resort seemed to appeal to an older audience and therefore didnt have a complete night life. The weather got the week wasnt the best however the runs seemed to maintain a decent condition. Overall the resort was to a good standard and was a lot of fun for the week

Beautiful village has many great restaurants and places to stay and 5 linked mountains to ski and board
There are slopes for everyone, from the beginners terrain at Beauregard to the powder bowl of Balme.
Balme always has great snow and regularly hosts freeride competitions so that tells you that there are many off piste options!
Although not the highest resort it gets good snow curtesy of weather passing over Lake Annecy
If you fancy more, there is Grand Bernard - ski bus links and also nearby access to the Mont Blanche massif
