Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Fabulous family resort that suits all ages and abilities. We’ve skied as a family since our kids were 4&6 and they’re now 19 & 21 and it’s still a great time! Plenty apres ski options as well.

I went to Avoriaz with a group of friends, despite having accommodation slightly far apart it was still super easy to meet up and eat out together every night. We made full use of the ski area and absolutely loved our time in Avoriaz. We’d love to go back and had the best trip together!

Avoriaz was both romantic and adventurous, going with my girlfriends family it offered us all time together as well as older members to go back to the chalet, while people that wanted to carry on skiing do so. The lifts were great and not much walking was needed. The snow, restaurants and apri ski were all amazing. I hadn’t skied in years and the trip lit the love for it again instantly. Anyone thinking about doing the trip, do it! Don’t second guess it, you’re not gunna regret it.

I went with a friend last minute because I wanted to improve my park skills and it was his first time skiing, I am a boarder. We were incredibly lucky with the amount of snow.

It's an incredible resort for beginners, intermediates & I would say families, even though I did not have my family with me. I will definitely bring my family here one day, it's a beautiful resort that seems to cater well for families.

There are numerous snowparks to choose from for all levels and they were all well maintained.

Super friendly staff and a good vibe overall. You can't go wrong, with quick transfers from Geneva.

I'll definitely be back, this is one of my favourite resorts now, especially for the my ability (just started freestyle at 46) in the park.

honestly this place stole my heart.
Perched at 1800 metres in the heart of the massive Portes du Soleil you get over 600 kilometres of runs stretching into Switzerland. Endless reds and blues let you cruise across borders grab lunch in a Swiss village then ski home again. The north facing slopes keep the snow reliable even late in the season and those wide playful pistes are perfect for building speed and confidence without ever getting dull.
The village feels special. Completely car free with beautiful wooden architecture tumbling down the cliffs. No traffic noise just the sound of skis and the occasional horse drawn sleigh. Everything is ski in ski out which made mornings effortless. Après was lovely warm bars vin chaud live music and that golden glow over the rooftops at sunset.
It suits every level. Gentle nursery slopes right in the village fun parks if youre into jumps and steeper blacks like the Swiss Wall for a proper thrill. The Savoyard food was pure comfort cheesy fondue tartiflette crepes that tasted even better after a long day. And the views across the peaks are breathtaking.

Fantastic resort. An abundance of runs. Could do a different run every day of the week and you still wouldn’t have done all of the larger ski pass

Avoriaz is a pretty, high altitude resort with great links to the lovely Chatel and Morzine. The highlight is watching or riding the horse sleighs and some awesome skiing!

Great for families & all levels of skier / boarder. Massive ski area if you opt for the full pass but there is plenty of variety just in the local area. Close to Geneva airport so a good option for a shorter trip. Love the car free town - it makes for a very chilled stay. Have had lessons with a few snowboard instructors including Burton and MINT - both were excellent. I usually go for self catered accommodation but there are plenty of catered chalets and some hotel options. Can get busy in peak weeks. My favourite French resort by far.
