Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

Every accommodation is ski in/out but range greatly in space, comfort and price. At the bottom end it's small Airbnb with sofa and pull out beds. Early booking is essential to get the best picks. The skiing is very good but it's the access to the Swiss part of the Portes de Sol pass that makes it a really great resort for beginners and intermediates, superb blues and reds in the morning sun is sublime.Apres is fun with a small variety of bar in the resort with the Follie Douche being the biggest and most well known party.Eating out can be a bit tricky and expensive but with a mini mart in the centre it is easy to get some cheap convenient dinners prepared in even the smallest apartments. There's two carparks, surface and underground. It helps to be aware spaces in the underground are very tight. Overall the charm of the picturesque ski in/out, nightlife and accessibility keep this resort high on my list and with a 4 of 5 star ⭐ rating

We stayed just below Avoriaz at the bottom of the Prodains lift. This provided ready access to the Avoriaz side of the Portes de Soleil ski area with plenty of slopes for beginners and intermediates sheltered by the trees in more inclement weather conditions. Be aware that the links to Swiss slopes can close in windy conditions so you need to consider the weather forecast when travelling further afield. But even when weather is adverse there are still plenty of slopes to choose from with runs down to Montriond and Prodains.

Great family friendly car-free resort with access to large ski area. Most accomodation is ski in ski out and family activities off slope are wide ranging. The village centre is festive and picturesque with a carousel and lit up Christmas trees. The swimming pool with hot tub, lazy river, rainforest plants, climbing wall, tube slide and kids play area is not to be missed!

I visited Avoriaz for Snoboxx festival in March 2023. It was incredible. I have skied before but my boyfriend has not, so he spent a few mornings in ski school. He became a confident skier and was able to come with me up the mountains after a few days. The slopes were great for beginners and intermediate skiers. We also had advanced skiers in our group who rates the slopes highly. Apres ski was amazing, always my favourite part of skiing. Highly recommend Avoriaz and will be going back as soon as possible!!

Getting the porte du soleils ski pass opens up loads of slopes of all abilities. The green runs are quite flat and often find yourself poling yourself down the slope.Has a really good apres with loads of places to watch sport, sing karaoke and have a beer.

Very pretty resort with plenty of accommodation options, we were really lucky with the snow and weather which made for a great week of skiing. A fair few snow parks and a bonus being a lift away from Switzerland! This gave access to so many more runs of different levels. Very accessible for beginners a fair few red runs for more intermediate skiers and boarders too.
