Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

We stayed in Avoriaz over Christmas (5 skiers ranging from 11-48 years old and intermediate to advanced level) and we had a fantastic week. The snow was brilliant, lifts were largely open, with just a few closed early on during heavy snowfall due to the avalanche risk. The kids loved the Stash and Lil Stash areas and all the off piste possible, and there was plenty of skiing on offer in the wider Portes du Soleil area heading over to Switzerland. Only one lift was queued (proclou), although some are older slower chairs particularly up high on the Swiss border. The village of Avoriaz itself was fantastic - traffic free, lots to do in the evening (Aquariaz, bars, restaurants and of course because we were there at Christmas there was a fab firework display and Father Christmas visited!), plus pretty much everywhere is ski in ski out. Blue slopes were busy-ish at times but reds and blacks were quiet and mostly unpisted with good powder early on and some nice moguls forming later on in the week.

We love this resort. Ive been going since I was 12 and its really great for all ages. If you stay at the resort most of the accommodation benefits from ski-in ski-out access. The town itself is vehicle free apart from working vehicles and horse drawn sleighs. This means you can ski around the town too! Our favorite run is Abricotine, a beautiful long blue run. The ski area is massive and were still discovering new runs now. Would highly recommend for families, their Christmas and new years celebrations are brilliant.

Avoriaz is ski in ski out so great for families. We hired sledges so the kids could play on the snow whilst we had a drink in the bars outside. The blues are tougher here but plenty of rubs to chose from. Can be queues for ski lifts and runs can get quite cut up and moguly as the day goes on.

I absolutely love Avoriaz. Its high so youre pretty much guaranteed to be able to ski in and out. Its traffic free, its beautiful and its all round my favourite resort ever! Folie Douce is a firm favourite for the whole family for some apres ski table dancing and there are plenty of restaurants and bars as well as accommodation choices. Love love love it!!

Magical resort with no cars, only horse and carriage to get around. Arrival and departure can be a bit of a faff because of this but the vibe makes it worth it. Plenty of restaurants and bars, although they are pricey. The altitude means the snow is almost always great, but does mean the drive to the resort is a little long with lots of tight bends.

Ive been to avoriaz for the past 3 X Christmas we always have a great time with the vast amount of runs spanning across both Avoriaz & Morzine. There resort caters to all levels and you can even ski/board right through the town centre! The snow park is also great along with the Stash for those more experienced and more daring. Lift queues were reasonable over Christmas & there are plenty of places to stop and eat - Id recommend Linderet area especially. Apres isnt huge here but they do have a folie douce which has singers & acrobats

Just got back from Avoriaz, a return after a 12 year hiatus, it was even better than I could recall and challenged pretty much any of Europes biggest and best resorts. Fantastic.

Avoriaz is a great resort in the Portes du Soliel region of France that boasts great links with resorts in both France and Switzerland. It benefits from being the highest resort in the region and so has the best record of snow. It is not easily linked with Morzine and Les Gets due to the need for lifts and a walk across Morzine to truly benefit from that area.Avoriaz is mostly ski in/out and a charming winter wonderland of purpose built accommodation. Its best links are with Chatel, Les Crosets, Morgin, Champoussin. Even though it is high, it still has some lovely tree lined skiing and caters for all levels of ability. A car free resort with horse drawn sleighs also adds to its appeal. Purpose groomed areas like the slope style park and The Stash appeal to freestyle and back country aficionados. For the more adventurous skier, the black unpisted Swiss Wall is a challenge.

Barely any good food options if you have dietary requirements, like lactose intolerance. Otherwise a lovely resort and great fun. Run variety is amazing. Long flat areas between ski lifts in some parts though that take a long time to push through and can be a choke point for traffic. Many red runs get very choppy quite quickly so beginners getting into it will find them hard work over all the moguls. Went during snowboxx festival. So late in the season and it was a bit too late it got very melty. Apres ski was brilliant fun though.

Avoriaz is a perfect place for anyone skiing/snowboarding from beginners to advanced, also very easy to get around. The ski schools are great and plenty of choice. The centre is lovely as it is a pedestrian zone with no cars, just horse and carts and snow taxis. There is plenty of choices for eating out from typical french to pizzerias.Le folie douche is the main apres ski in the resort which is great fun and has a fantastic atmosphere each day.

I went to Avoriaz with a group of friends last winter, and it was honestly one of the best ski trips weve had. The skiing is incredible its part of the huge Portes du Soleil area, so there are endless slopes for all levels. A few of us tackled the infamous Swiss Wall, while the beginners loved the gentler runs closer to the resort. The car-free setup is such a unique touch. Walking through snowy streets with sleds and horse-drawn carriages made the place feel magical. Plus, most of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out, which made everything super convenient.Après-ski was a highlight too. La Folie Douce was buzzing with live music, and there were plenty of bars to keep us going into the night. And the food? Everything from fondue to burgers no complaints there. If I had to nitpick, it can get pretty windy on the higher lifts, but thats a small price for great snow and stunning views. Were already planning to go back Avoriaz is just that good!
