Avoriaz Review Summary

Avoriaz attracts a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experts, with many families and groups visiting. Reviewers consistently mention the ski-in/ski-out convenience, car-free village with horse-drawn transport, and access to the large Portes du Soleil area including Switzerland. Snow conditions are generally described as reliable due to altitude, though lower runs can become slushy or icy in afternoons. The après-ski scene, particularly La Folie Douce, is frequently praised. Accommodation is often noted as expensive or basic, and lift queues can be significant during UK and French school holidays.

I went with my wife and daughter and found Morzine/Avoriaz family friendly. The snow was was epic, which I know can be dependent on the season, but pow everyday for a week I was there. Morzine has a cool village with a good amount of food options too.

Great resort. Great restaurants, lively Apres and no motor vehicles allowed in resort – great for those ““tipsy” “walks back to your accommodation. Fabulous ski area-ski pass in Avoriaz Morzine, Les Gets, and Chatel. Been back many many times, highly recommended.

A really good resort with a mix of slopes, we visited Avoriaz for a day when skiing in Morzine. Avoriaz was busier but had a really good atmosphere especially at La Folie Douce.

Transfer was great, access to the hotel was fantastic. Went self catering and the supermarkets were quality with good choice. Skye area was massive and perfect for the whole family of different abilities. Plenty to do during the day and night life. Overall a great resort and would live to go back.

This place is like a fairytale with the horse drawn sleighs and the sheer magic of living in an apartment looking right down the mountain and watching the ski lifts go by. I absolutely adored it!!

Took my little girl age 4 and went back age 5 as a family. Always stayed in chalet before but hotel with kids is so much easier as food always on tap! Avoriaz is wonderful especially the basin area near the Swiss wall. Enables all levels to ski and snowboard and my favourite place!

We have been to Avoriaz 4 times now with our 4 children! It’s a perfect resort for kids learning to ski. We always stay in Pierre Vacances that works brilliantly with the kitchen, ski to door and the pool for afternoons not on the slopes

Love this resort! It’s beautifully designed and with the horse sleighs it feels like an alpine village out of time. Runs and left infrastructure surrounding are great. Excellent ski school for intermediate skiers. Lower runs could be a bit slushy / churned up in the afternoon which could be challenging for beginners, but as long as you can get back up to the high slopes, you’d be grand. We stayed at the belambra all-inclusive, which was perfect so didn’t really eat or drink out much, but we did go to a couple of bar/restaurants on the slopes which were great. We also went last year for snowbox festival, which was great fun. Great all rounder resort

I absolutely adore skiing in Avoriaz and the PDS. While not a quiet resort, if you avoid those peek weeks like UK school holidays, I have never found it to be too bad especially if you are able to get up and at it early. There are lots of options for skiers of all levels so it’s is great for groups of different abilities. The snow can be less than ideal on the very lowest runs but Avoriaz has the altitude and is a lot more snow sure than Morzine. There are lots of great restaurants particularly in the goat village of les Lindarets and make sure to find the Igloo Bar as it’s an incredible feat. Of course food and drink on the mountain aren’t cheap but definitely better prices than when you cross the border into Switzerland. Head to apres at the Happy Hours Bar at the bottom of the Ardent gondola- they run their own free shuttle back into Morzine each evening.
