Alpe d'Huez Review Summary
Alpe d'Huez attracts a broad range of skiers from beginners to experts, with users frequently noting the extensive green and blue runs that make it particularly suitable for learners and families. The resort's high altitude and sunny aspect are regularly mentioned, though this can lead to variable snow conditions lower down and slushy afternoons in spring. Multiple reviewers highlight the long runs, especially the Sarenne black, and the efficient lift system connecting to satellite villages like Vaujany and Oz. Après-ski receives mixed feedback, with Folie Douce praised but some users noting limited options and early closing times. Food quality both on-mountain and in town is consistently well-regarded, though prices are noted as typical for a French resort.

Plenty to do in the town, lots of bars and a great leisure centre with plenty to do if you want to something that isn't skiing.
Would thoroughly recommend the helicopter day trip to neighbouring Les Deux Alps, whilst the skiing in Alp D is far better, it's a very cool experience and good to try out somewhere else.
Felt the Apres was pretty poor - irrespective of what others say
The town was a nice mix of party and quiet.
The ski schools ESF are great and the lift to them is really cool for kids.
The lower down you went there was less snow coverage but we stayed up the mountain as much as we could. Lifts were busy but still moved quickly.
The apres scene is great fun! The Folie Douce was amazing, I recommend about 3pm to get there for a good space. Then as a Brit, going to Smithys bar always lead to a good night as they have live music and a great atmosphere!
Only downsides are costs. Its an expensive resort for everything but rental and lift passes.
I believe the resort has the most green runs in France, but equal amount of red runs and the longest Black run in Europe, not forgetting one of the most breathtaking panoramic views Ive ever seen from Pic Blanc 3,330m up the mountain. To get to the top a bit quicker and skip the queue leave your skis at the second lift DCM 2 then ski down from the ice cave after!
Food
Restaurant Edelweiss - amazing steak and cheese fondue (dont forget to book)
La Folie Douce - very average food and service but worth it for you own space. Book at 14:00 to stay till the end! Last lift is apparently 16:20 but the ski down after isnt bad (the beginners were skiing down)
Apollo Papa Pizza - really good fresh pizza, perfect after drinking up the slopes and a quick bite before heading out again.
Banh Thai - got a takeaway from here, it wasnt like an English Thai takeaway but still good food and great for a night in
Pinnochio - we didnt go here but was told there was really great Italian food
La Cremaillere - didnt go here either but the ski instructors said its the best in the village
La Cabane - on the mountain, perfect stop for coffee or lunch. Really quick service and the view is great. Take Romains lift and left down Les Agneux blue run
At the bottom of Marmottes 1 lift there is a sandwich bar perfect for lunch either eat in or takeaway around 10 with a drink. There are plenty of benches up the mountain to take a cheap lunch but have an amazing view.
Party
La Folie Douce - good fun but the same music every day. Wednesday was the best day to go! At the top of Marmottes 1 chairlift.
Moose Bar - head here after Folie (some people get changed some dont) at the bottom of Les Jeux chair lift. Good fun and wide range of music but also plays cha cha slide etc. Beers $9.50, spirit mixers $$$$
Underground bar - one of our favourites for a chilled drink or party, had the premier league on TV too.
Smithys / Zoo Bar - great if you want to stay out later. Dont get the sherbet shot (or do).
There is a bar in between Terrsens Hotel Escapade and Hotel ale Refuge (on the side of the slopes) when you come out of the Alpe express lift in the village, which is perfect to watch the sun go down with a cocktail. Really friendly here. Has a pool table and beer pong.
The group was in 2 hotels, both next to the lifts which makes getting up for first lifts so easy. Also really easy to get between hotels. I would recommend staying at Odollays as it was less money and more modern! But they were both fab.
1. Terrsens hotel escapade - next to the bottom lift in the village, clean and friendly service. Sauna and steam room. Boot room. No lift. We didnt eat here.
2. Odolays Prestige Hotel - a lot more modern. There is a pool and spa and its opposite the centre lift station. Facilities to make your own lunch etc.
An unforgettable holiday, we are already looking at going back next year!
Amazing slopes for all abilities with plenty of off piste and park options.
Its home to the longest black run in Europe which offers amazing views and amazing ski experience.
The resort its self has so much to offer for evening activities such as ice skating and swimming in its outdoor heated pool with some amazing local restaurants which are amazingly good quality.
The resort is so friendly and home like. I go to alpe dHuez every year as it feels like a home from home.
Best resort out there.
Food options were pretty good even with a vegan in the group we found a few restaurants that were able to offer vegan dishes, as well as traditional french dishes
The accommodation options when booking were fairly poor but we were booking fairly last minute so that was to be expected. We ended up with a really great apartment which we booked through sunweb and it comfortably slept 4 people.
The shops in the area were ok but there was only one "market" close to us with limited stock of items and not many vegan or vegetarian options, but it had the basics that we expected.
The apres ski was good, we found a great bar called underground bar which served various beers and cocktails, the atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly.
All in all, the skiing and apres ski in this area were pretty good and I would for sure book again if the right deal came up.
