What Skiers Say About Borovets

Borovets is consistently described as a budget-friendly resort that particularly suits beginners and families, with multiple reviewers praising the ski schools and instructors. The ski area is small, with most intermediate skiers able to cover all runs within 2-3 days, and advanced skiers often find limited terrain. Value for money is a recurring theme, though several reviewers note prices have increased since Bulgaria adopted the Euro. Snow conditions are variable, with the resort relying heavily on snow cannons, and late-season visits often see limited piste availability and slushy conditions. The resort has a lively nightlife with cheap bars and restaurants, though some reviewers mention the prevalence of strip clubs as a family concern.

Amazing beginner runs, lack of intermediate runs. Great food and apres ski. Highly suggest avoiding peak time for the lifts as the queues can be crazy long, weekdays over weekends.

Borovets used to be an exciting ,cheap, busy, well groomed slopes, with a vintage feel about it with the smell of log fires drifting over the village but now the some of the lifts don’t work, the slopes are busy, the restaurants empty, prices rocketed and a general sense of what the frick happened. Bring back the good old days!!!

Have been to Borovets twice.

The ski school and ease of getting to the slopes are both great. But what it lacks from is a variety of more advanced slopes, so if you’re a more advanced skier it may not be for you.

The apres are ok. Not a huge apres atmosphere but plenty of bars to enjoy.

It has become more expensive of recent years as well. So isn’t the cheap alternative that it used to be.

Would I go back, yes. Would I rush back, probably not.

Went as a mixed group of skiers and snowboards, some experienced others learning for the first time.

Resort is fairly small but perfect size for beginners. Also great for beginners as has lots of green and easy blue runs, and great ski schools.

Really cheap apres, lots of small bars/pubs at the bottom of the slopes (nothing at the top).

The people were very friendly :)

Borovets is an easy trip from Sofia airport, and basically a huge amount of fun. Don’t expect the quality of the alps. You can ski or board the whole piste map in a couple of days, but it’s well kept and worth the visit. The night life is hit and miss. Can be crazy busy and incredible or oddly quiet. But either way it’s a decent atmosphere and good food and cheap drink. It is off the amount on strip bars that appear out of know where, and they aren’t discreet, so be careful how long you keep your kids out. But the locals are friendly and they also don’t allow for any nonsense happening. Basically visit you’ll have a great time

If you are looking for a cheap and affordable ski trip then this is the resort for you, ski and lift passes were very cheap and accommodation was the same. For someone who has ski’d once or twice before definitely worth a visit. Might not be advanced enough for very good skiers.

Cheap and Cheerful Borovets, locals are friendly and the ski schools are decent. Limited hotel accommodation and Apres Ski is based in the town but beer is cheap and everyone is up for a good time. Worth a visit on a budget.

We spent a week over Christmas in Borovets Bulgaria. We had soo much snow it was all most too much due to it causing power cuts. The children found this all very exciting but probably not the same feeling for the hotel staff. The generators kicked in after a few minutes. We stayed at the Lion Hotel which is a lovely easy 10 minute stroll to the main area. In the morning we would get the hotel mini bus in and collect our equipment under the Samokov Hotel. After ski school we would walk back. The hotels Spa area was lovely, 1 outside sauna, 2 indoor herbal saunas, 1 salt sauna, 2 steam rooms, a relaxation area, massage/treatment rooms, swimming pool and out door hot tube. The food was plentifully and of a good standard. Rooms were cleaned daily and the tv had English speaking movies on it. The staff we generally warm and welcoming. Father Christmas and his helper came and delivered presents to the children which was such a lovely touch. We were a mix of skiers and Snowboarders. For us Snowboarders the free riding FONFON area was so much fun so if you like moguls then this is not to be missed. The Cool Runnings restaurant/bar is a great place to pop in for a drink and enjoy the daily entertainment. Borovets is a great affordable ski resort to choose.

I recently went to Borovets with my friends. This was the first time I had skied a resort outside of France. We went in school holidays so the pistes were very quiet which was amazing, and we got lucky with snow too. I was there for 4 days, all days were sunny but by the end of the trip the snow was beginning to get very thin and slushy in some places. The snow making facilities at the resort are excellent though on some runs near the Hotel Rila.
The apres ski and night life was very good too. There are lots of pubs and bars in town which are super cheap, however there is not the 'magical' feel like resorts in the Alps have. It feels quite purpose built, however it definitely does the job for a cheap ski break.
I would definitely recommend Borovets to anyone looking for a cheap ski holiday. There are not loads of slopes - I did everything in about 2.5 days, but for beginners it is great. I have also been told the queues are insane in peak season, so make sure to go outside of these times.

Borovets is a great resort that doesn't get too busy. Queues to get on the lifts are not too long and give you plenty of options for different levels of runs. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, with a good range of food choices. The people are friendly.

Cheap drinks (happy hour all day pretty much) Lovely environment with nice slopes. Good holiday when on a budget especially.
