Cheap and Cheerful Borovets, locals are friendly and the ski schools are decent. Limited hotel accommodation and Apres Ski is based in the town but beer is cheap and everyone is up for a good time. Worth a visit on a budget.

We spent a week over Christmas in Borovets Bulgaria. We had soo much snow it was all most too much due to it causing power cuts. The children found this all very exciting but probably not the same feeling for the hotel staff. The generators kicked in after a few minutes. We stayed at the Lion Hotel which is a lovely easy 10 minute stroll to the main area. In the morning we would get the hotel mini bus in and collect our equipment under the Samokov Hotel. After ski school we would walk back. The hotels Spa area was lovely, 1 outside sauna, 2 indoor herbal saunas, 1 salt sauna, 2 steam rooms, a relaxation area, massage/treatment rooms, swimming pool and out door hot tube. The food was plentifully and of a good standard. Rooms were cleaned daily and the tv had English speaking movies on it. The staff we generally warm and welcoming. Father Christmas and his helper came and delivered presents to the children which was such a lovely touch. We were a mix of skiers and Snowboarders. For us Snowboarders the free riding FONFON area was so much fun so if you like moguls then this is not to be missed. The Cool Runnings restaurant/bar is a great place to pop in for a drink and enjoy the daily entertainment. Borovets is a great affordable ski resort to choose.

I recently went to Borovets with my friends. This was the first time I had skied a resort outside of France. We went in school holidays so the pistes were very quiet which was amazing, and we got lucky with snow too. I was there for 4 days, all days were sunny but by the end of the trip the snow was beginning to get very thin and slushy in some places. The snow making facilities at the resort are excellent though on some runs near the Hotel Rila. The apres ski and night life was very good too. There are lots of pubs and bars in town which are super cheap, however there is not the 'magical' feel like resorts in the Alps have. It feels quite purpose built, however it definitely does the job for a cheap ski break. I would definitely recommend Borovets to anyone looking for a cheap ski holiday. There are not loads of slopes - I did everything in about 2.5 days, but for beginners it is great. I have also been told the queues are insane in peak season, so make sure to go outside of these times.

Great resort for anyone on a budget, really good vibes and nice people, some good bars for night time and the food is similar priced to normal U.K. pubs, definitely worth a visit!

Borovets is a great resort that doesn't get too busy. Queues to get on the lifts are not too long and give you plenty of options for different levels of runs. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, with a good range of food choices. The people are friendly.

Great experience been 2 years in a row, most likely will return for a 3rd year in 2026! We used a great ski instructor called sami who also owns a nightclub called nightlife borovets and it was a good time! Cheap drinks (happy hour all day pretty much) Lovely environment with nice slopes. Good holiday when on a budget especially.

This was my first ski trip but my kids and husband are experienced skiers. We found borovets perfect for that dynamic. Lots of nursery slopes and blues for me but plenty to keep them occupied. It was easy to meet up at lunch and the apre was fun although mostly subdued. Great food but restaurants were heaving at lunchtime. Would revisit and recommend to a family with teens like us.

I have been snowboarding in Bulgaria for many years, you get a lot for your money and there are any steep runs for the more proficient riders. I wish the park was bigger and that there were more moguls but the off piste runs are really good and easy to get to with only a short walk from the lifts.

Brilliant place to learn to ski. Instructors are brilliant. Would definitely go back, already second time in borovets. Stayed in hotel lion, great hotel with good food, regular shuttle into centre. Ski area reasonable size with good mix of runs, weather was also brilliant, loads of snow in January

Borovets was a great option for me to learn to ski. Lots of blue runs to choose from and some harder ones which felt like reds. The tree lined slopes were gorgeous. Only one good option for apres if you like partying and thats black tiger at the bottom of the nursery slope - dancing on tables etc! Rila hotel terrace was nice for a more classy apres vibe but still good music.

My family come back to Borovets every year, this year 25 of us went with children of all ages from 2 - 13. There are slopes to suits all levels of skiers. Instructors part of a group of private instructors for one to ones who are really reasonably priced. Plenty of bars and restaurants on the slopes and in the area. We stay at the Rila Hotel everytime and cannot fault it.

Personally, I would avoid to go skiing in Bulgaria. The hotel wasn't very clean, very old-fashioned, needs updating. We didn't like the food either. Overall, overpriced for what you get.
