We have been to Borovets many times but the last few years have seen the resort and slopes deteriorate greatly. With the reduced amount of snowfall each year (not the resorts fault) they do seem to reduce the amount of piste maintenance to cater for local holiday seasons/Bank holidays. Now that Bulgaria has changed to the Euro, it is no longer a cheap and cheerful resort.

Good selection of runs to suit all. Majority of runs open & use of snow cannons during visit kept them well maintained.
Thursday night ski was good extra but very popular.glad we arrived early and prepaid for tickets via borovets ski app.
Lift passes prices very reasonable.
Good selection of restaurants and bars. Not expensive good value for money.

I visited Borovets Bulgaria with my family of 8, we were a mix of advanced to beginner group. The ski school was very good by the end of the week all beginners could ski. Best value for money for first time skiers in ski school. Not much of night life scene the bars were quiet enough. Restaurants mediocre. Hotel Rila was very good, food, spa facilities etc. for advanced skiers the slopes were good depending on how much snow however became boring as not many options for runs. Also no apres ski at all.

The stone refugio at the top of the gondola is the best meal I’ve ever had skiing! There’s a great green run at the top as well. Was disappointed to find that the long resort green run at the top of the four-chair lift wasn’t groomed.

Excellent resort for families and keen skiers/snowboarders. Lots of ski school choices, night ski 3x nights a week. However limited on green and blue runs. Mainly reds and some blacks. Queue time was good and ski pass covered ALL lifts in the resort.

Family and friends’ trip for 12 in Feb half term with some novice and some improver skiers aged 15-60.

Stayed in Hotel Samokov which was perfect for our needs with comfortable, warm rooms with balconies, a plentiful buffet breakfast with something for everyone and an upgraded dinner option to “Paramount” à la carte for a small fee for a superior evening meal.

Hotel had a games room, nice pool and spa area plus a fabulous overnight laundry option at low cost for all items returned before breakfast the following day.

Ski hire is in the basement of the hotel and ski school meet outside with a very short walk to the gondola and a few more metres to the nursery slopes.

Lots of snow, lots of slopes to explore up to red level and can’t comment beyond that!

Lunch options plentiful at all altitudes and cost of living cheaper than UK.

Apres options suitable for the whole age range plus skidoo, sledging and other non-ski activities available.

It may not be where the best skiers go but we’d return in a heartbeat.

Stayed in hotel lion, food was good, easy 5 minute shuttle from the hotel to the bottom of the slopes, plenty of variety for beginners and options for more advanced. Resort has plenty of bars and restaurants and nightlife is lively although there are limited bars on the slopes themselves. Not a huge resort but value for money is spot on.

Borovets is a perfect resort for beginner to intermediate ski families. There’s not much for advanced skiers so if you like to ski reds & blacks all day avoid here. There’s a great vibe in the resort and the Rila hotel has been fabulous both times we’ve stayed there. It’s nice to not feel you’re getting fleeced for your food on the slopes, you can get a pizza and drink for less that ten quid!

Good skiing for a couple of days but most intermediates would probably get bored after that due to few km of piste. Snow cover wasn’t great when we went either so a lot of the runs were closed and / or icy so could be challenging near the bottom. Would also say the slope gradings were tough compared to french resorts too (many borovets blues would be french reds in our opinions)

Small resort, very reasonable priced for food and drinks.
Skiing was good but the resort doesn’t have the same altitude as the Alps. Great for families, beginners and intermediate skiers.

Really good resort if you are looking for something cheap and are a beginner-intermediate. Intermediate-advanced riders will lap the resort in a day or so. Lots of the green runs are narrow connecting runs so snowboarders may struggle

Small resort, good for skiers but some pistes are quite narrow so not ideal for snowboarders. Unfortunately when the gondola is shut due to high winds everyone is concentrated to the few lower slopes so it can get very busy! Mixture of runs for all abilities and good for a weekend but overall a small budget friendly option!

Great for beginner and families. Everyone is super super friendly including locals. I have been to France and the local villagers seem to hate you?!?! Not the case in Bulgaria, Everyone is so welcoming and helpful, really kind people. The apres isn't great but the night like is really really good. All kinds of places to go depends on the atmosphere you like.
Would say definitely family friendly. So much to do other than ski or board. The ski schools for children are so good. Again probably because everyone is super nice and friendly.
Started going in 2015 and went each year until covid hit. It was so so cheap with a full package costing a little over £500 including flights, half board accommodation and the lift pass and lessons. However this secret gem has got a lot more expensive since its been discovered by so many people now.
Best time to go is January and early Feb. Depends on weather conditions would not recommend leaving it little March, it can be very very green in the village
