What Skiers Say About Bansko
Bansko attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting its budget-friendly pricing for accommodation, food, and drink in town. The resort offers around 75km of pistes with a good mix of blues and reds, though advanced riders report the terrain becomes repetitive quickly. The single gondola from town creates significant bottlenecks, with queues frequently exceeding one to two hours during peak periods and school holidays, leading many users to take taxis to mid-station instead. Most reviewers praise the food scene, particularly in the old town, and describe the slopes as well-groomed when snow conditions allow, though coverage at lower elevations can be unreliable early and late season.

A few of our group had lessons which were very affordable and over just two mornings us beginners in the group were able to gain confidence and ski down blue slopes, going onto red only the day after. The lessons were relaxed so if you are looking for more structure consider paying slightly more, this will still not break the bank.
We got an accommodation 10 min walk from the entrance to the resort which meant a little walk to get there. It was nice to walk through the town but if we went back we might get accommodation a bit closer so that it’s not so difficult to carry all the ski equipment but there taxis around to take you either to the base or halfway up the resort.
Everyone is really friendly and there are people of all ages at the resort. Restaurants on the slopes are slightly limited but they are nice and no queues.
Apres was small as there’s only really one bar open late and it’s at the entrance to the resort. If you’re looking for big apres this resort may not be the one. But it was good fun and cheap pints.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Bansko and it got me into skiing perfectly considering there’s slopes for all abilities and a lot of blue runs.
We really enjoyed our week away here.
We also went to the hot springs and did a tour of Sophia which was fascinating.
But it’s not very big, lots of the runs were closed and the main gondola from Bansko to the ski resort definitely needs to be bigger.
It’s been nice, but not amazing.
