What Skiers Say About Bansko

Bansko attracts predominantly beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with reviewers consistently noting its budget-friendly pricing for accommodation, food, and drink in town. The resort offers around 75km of pistes with a good mix of blues and reds, though advanced riders report the terrain becomes repetitive quickly. The single gondola from town creates significant bottlenecks, with queues frequently exceeding one to two hours during peak periods and school holidays, leading many users to take taxis to mid-station instead. Most reviewers praise the food scene, particularly in the old town, and describe the slopes as well-groomed when snow conditions allow, though coverage at lower elevations can be unreliable early and late season.

This was my first ever time skiing and I couldn’t recommend it more especially for beginners. The town is easy to get around and the resort is easy to get used to with clear direction and plenty of places to around to stop.
A few of our group had lessons which were very affordable and over just two mornings us beginners in the group were able to gain confidence and ski down blue slopes, going onto red only the day after. The lessons were relaxed so if you are looking for more structure consider paying slightly more, this will still not break the bank.
We got an accommodation 10 min walk from the entrance to the resort which meant a little walk to get there. It was nice to walk through the town but if we went back we might get accommodation a bit closer so that it’s not so difficult to carry all the ski equipment but there taxis around to take you either to the base or halfway up the resort.
Everyone is really friendly and there are people of all ages at the resort. Restaurants on the slopes are slightly limited but they are nice and no queues.
Apres was small as there’s only really one bar open late and it’s at the entrance to the resort. If you’re looking for big apres this resort may not be the one. But it was good fun and cheap pints.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Bansko and it got me into skiing perfectly considering there’s slopes for all abilities and a lot of blue runs.

Gondola queue was mental early on in the morning. Pistes were well groomed with ski lifts running efficiently. Restaurants and bars were also very efficient at taking orders and delivering food and drinks in a timely manner. Overall a good experience, not really a resort for beginners, seems as though the grading of runs were downgraded too.

Bankso is a great budget ski trip and I plan to return next season, the people are friendly and the lift passes and ski rentals and hotels etc are reasonably priced but the food and drink and cigs and everything else is so cheap because of the exchange rate

Great resort! The cable car always had a very long queue to get up the mountain but apart from that it was great!
We really enjoyed our week away here.
We also went to the hot springs and did a tour of Sophia which was fascinating.

For the price of this ski resort you cannot go wrong.

But it’s not very big, lots of the runs were closed and the main gondola from Bansko to the ski resort definitely needs to be bigger.

It’s been nice, but not amazing.

Good range of slopes, advanced skiers may struggle with the low amount of black runs. Great views from the top and fun town at the bottom.

Bansko is great as a family resort, with many separate bunny hills, long meandering slopes (you can do a blue-green combo of slopes from the very top all the way down to the village) and many options for spa and wellness in the main village and just 15 minutes away in the surrounding Banya, Dobrinishte, and others. Even with the bad snowfall, it was skiable for Christmas and New Years in 2025, which is unusual for resorts on the Balkans.

It’s was an okay resort not as good as France for food or standards, but it was cheap and what would expect for the money you pay

Unfortunately we came during bad/no snow so this review is tarnished by climate and shouldn’t fully reflect Bansko as an option for a ski holiday. It’s cheap and cheerful with good investment into amenities. The queue for the gondola can be up to 1h30 long so I’d strongly advise investing in the queue jump lift pass to make the most of your week. I’m sure during January it would be considerably better, December 25 was bad for many areas in terms of snow including much more luxurious venues.

Bansko is a great resort. I would be careful about booking too far in advance especially if your planning to go in early January. Its great for intermediate skiers who want a cheap break away. Beginners will struggle if the the piste that runs to the bottom gondola isn't open. I believe they have great conditions later into the season.

Excellent resort, extremely impressed with the town and facilities. A lot smaller than French resorts in terms of number of slopes.

It was okay for my first ski trip. Vlad private instructor was excellent but runs apparently not the same level as other places in Europe.

Great value for money resort although you must remember it is basically a ex communist country so the facilities are very basic but the ski area itself although small is very well looked after.
