What Skiers Say About Sölden

Sölden attracts predominantly intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders seeking reliable snow conditions and extensive terrain. Reviewers consistently highlight the glacier access, long wide runs, modern lift infrastructure, and vibrant après-ski scene. The resort draws mixed-ability groups and those looking for high-altitude skiing with good snow coverage throughout the season. Common criticisms include crowding during peak periods, expensive lift passes relative to terrain size, and challenging home runs in warm conditions. Several users note the resort feels less traditionally Austrian and more commercialised than comparable destinations.

The views are amazing, and because of the high elevation the snow stays very good. The liftnetwork is also pretty nice and updated

Really enjoy Solden for the nice wide blue runs, great après both on and off the mountain and for just being an overall friendly resort. The lifts are great too. Definitely will be back.

Massive, high ski area with a glacier. Loads to do and lots of ride. The town itself is just OK. Some good places to eat but the apres is very Austrian.

Can be condition dependant with winds and it was -36c at the top when we were there so quite alot got closed, but still a good area with well maintained lifts serving the mountain. Not as developed as some of the other Austrian resorts like St Anton, Lech and Mayrhofen but good value for money.

This was a great resort, quite a funny James Bond theme running through it. But what a magical experience to ski on a glacier only issue was it was very busy.

I went on a 3 day trip to Soelden late November just after the resort opened for the season. About half the runs(the higher ones above Giggijoch station) were open. The glaciers were also open. Conditions were very good given how early in the season it was. Pistes were well maintained and had a decent covering of fresh snow. Unfortunately I had an accident (self inflicted) on the first morning so didn’t get to ski the rest of the resort on the next day). Lifts were running well, not too busy and pistes not crowded. Very good start to the season conditions.

Great resort, vert lively apres in select bars. Can ski into resort but not a suitable run for beginners as the snow conditions can be difficult on the lower slopes.

Reliable fresh snow even at the end of March. Went there when electric mountain festival was on, and it was amazing. The 15km run from top to bottom is a must do!

A great resort loads of good restaurant’s, we were late in the season so it seemed very quiet, the 007 experience was well worth a visit and loved seeing all the things used in in one of the films . A must do is jump on the bus to ski the Gurgles and visit the motor bike museum while your there

More than just skiing. Two glaciers, one with a great restaurant and the 007 experience, well worth a visit, with film props still on the mountain. Other glacier has very good skiing although a bit of a trek to get there. Run back to town from here. Good selection of blue runs and hidden huttes in the area below IceQ, on the piste map. Apres ski mainly on the left hand side of map above town. Day trip to hochgurgl/obergurgl about 40mins by taxi for opening of lifts, walk round car/bike museum , couple of drinks in niderhutte then nack on the bus.. Fab!! (This was feb 2019)

Solden has some great ski areas with wide open easy cruisers to Olympic downhill blacks. Slopes are perfectly prepared daily to help you make the most of your day on the mountain. The glaciers provide safe straight slopes for your confidence building. Word of caution to the timid skiers/boarders, the runs to the resort at the end of day become very mogully and dangerous depending on others around you. My advice is to enjoy the trip down in the gondola and reminisce in the days activities. The resort is spread along a busy road which is quite intrusive to your enjoyment but is made up for with a good selection of shops restaurants and bars. 3rd trip to Solden completed this month and it still holds the enjoyment factor and pretty good facilities. Only other minor negative is for tall skiers as the chairs are lower to the ground than most other resorts and my knees took quite a pounding at the lift stations.

March 2025: having tried every run in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl in the first two days of our stay we then took the bus to Sölden and were delighted by better snow, quieter and more extensive pistes and open itinerary runs. The 007 James Bond experience was great fun and the mountain restaurants, especially Tiefenbach Gletscher had great character and music. We returned the next day as our children (in their 20s) wanted to try more of the black runs at their speed as opposed to ours. Solden is on our wish list for next season as it deserves more attention than we had time for this visit.
