Runs are wide and a good mix of blue/red/black, really is something for everyone. Great lift infrastructure, which seems to be added to or updated every season.
There are plenty of mountain restaurants and bars nestled among the mountains, always places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. Skiing over to leogang is lovely too.
Highly recommend hexenhaus and goasstall for apreski - if you have children definitely have a meal in goasstall, we've got a collection of cuddly goats (might be worth avoiding on a Friday lunchtime, I think most ski schools take their kids there for lunch and a free cuddly goat!)
If you have a spare afternoon or evening, a trip into Zell am See is worth considering too - although zell is now connected via lift at viehoffen too.
There is soooo much skiing to do and so many runs / slopes it feels endless and the wee town of Saalbach is really lovely as well although we have stayed out of town before and that was great as well.
Goasstall (Hinterglemm), Cabrio (Zell) and Hinterhag Alm (Saalbach) all great for Apres, but there are many others worth a visit. Asitzbrau (Leogang) is the highest brewery in Europe, with excellent food to match.
Fieberbrunn generally best for freeride, but the terrain is so varied there is a multitude of options. Genuinely best to hire a guide if you want to escape the crowds whilst staying safe, and also remain on the right side of the valley come the end of the day!
Dorfstadl restaurant in Viehofen, just next to the Zell am See express, is a well-priced and high quality stop for food and/or drinks. Also has the best staff in the valley, with special mention to Lucky Luke.
Been here twice and will be back again.
Great microclimate here for a rather low resort.
Hinterglemm is where the Apres Ski is mainly I would say.
Our accomodation was right in the middle of the town and it was super convenient for everything! Would note that breakfast started quite late compared to when the lifts and gondolas opened and so it was difficult to get out first before the crowds.
Overall was super happy with the trip and would definitely go back!
Great food, great accomodations and all with good prices. Best ski lift efficiency of any resort I have visited.
The ski school around the resort was very good, with a high level of hospitality and help from the instructors
The village has plenty of charm and there are a seemingly endless amount of cosy restaurants on the mountain, serving traditional food at reasonable prices. The aprés is as good as anywhere in the world, with the bars turning the euro-pop up after lunch, and with various happy hours leading back to resort level, its relatively affordable. Tip: start at the Berger Alm and end at the Hinterhag Alm.
The valley is mostly soft and wooded but from the top you get stunning views onto jagged mountains.
Overall, its an incredible resort that is fun, charming, traditional and the ultimate Austrian experience
