Kaprun has two ski areas to avail of. The glacier is about a 10 mins bus ride away and the maiskogel mountain is situated within the village. The maiskogel is great for warming up the legs at the start of your holiday before moving onto the vast glacier. The glacier can get busy but lots of the runs are nice and wide so doesnt feel too busy.
The village itself is expensive. Food and accommodation are definitely more expensive than other alpine villages. There are some superb restaurants in the village.

Short transfer, lovely village easily navigated. Some fantastic eateries and a bit more upmarket bars. Buses very frequent and short walks to lifts from stops.

We stayed in The Peoples Hotel, which is so stylishly modern and classy, huge breakfast buffet, wonderful staff and is the closest hotel to the lift station.
The lift system is amazing, rapid modern chairs and gondolas, including 6 and 8 seaters, but that's the problem, too many skiers are deposited on the slopes. On our trip in mid February it was hard to find space and the snow was cut up by mid morning.
This also meant that the catering was overwhelmed and at the largest restaurant you coukd spend an hour looking for a seat. Good job we found the Krefelder Hutte, a little off the piste, and serving lovely simple food.
The Gipfelwelt gallery in a tunnel through the mountain at the Top of Salzburg station is a real highlight, don't miss it!
Also the Ice Camp, a man made ice cavern sculpture feature is fascinating.
In town we were pleasantly surprised by the cost if eating out, never found it expensive.
Overall, an amazing resort, but they just allow too many people on the slopes, I'd love to return arca quieter time.

The 3k gondola is a long ride. Well, its 3km. Beware going over the other side in the afternoon with newbies and catching the last lift! The runs are fantastic up the top and some nice tree runs lower down with amazing views.
Kaprun is spotlessly clean with lots of friendly bars and restaurants. The apres bars are great fun too.
The ski lockers at the bottom of the maiskogle lift are brilliant. Right at the lift and there are loads of them with great facilities.

Kitzsteinhorn is a great ski resort to train on. The steep terrain and lack of trees and small terrain features makes the mountain challenging for beginners but offers adequate terrain for race, park and instructor training.

on Kitzsteinhorn the snow/slope quality is always top notch, the park is amazing and a lot of good powder runs, Lift lines are insanely long and the lift ride up to the glacier takes around 1 hour, but once u are there its worth it

The town of Kaprun itself is quite spread out and with only one lift up it was a bus ride to get to either that one or to to the glacier lift. So to get to the actual slopes it was a bit time consuming. The skiing on the glacier section was excellent, nice wide runs and brilliant views. Due to the rest of the resort being quite low down this part was always quite crowded. The lower slopes got quite slushy quickly and it was often the best option to get a lift down. The town and mountain both had good choices of restaurants with excellent food and drinks. The apres scene was a little limited, one slightly tacky bar at the bottom of the main lift and a handdul of other bars offering small outside areas. There is a large spa complex close to the town as well as neighbouring Zell am See, both reached by the free bus service. So there are plenty of non skiing options. Overall a good value for money place to stay but lacks any sort of traditional ski resort charm.

I didnt spend too much time here, but while I was there the snow was absolutely amazing, and it had some great views when there was good visibility, and the prices werent too bad.
However some possible negatives are how absolutely freezing it gets up there, and when I was there the visibility was pretty awful generally, and also theres very little when it comes to tree runs, as Kitzsteinhorn is on a glacier so is above the tree line.
