What Skiers Say About Kitzsteinhorn Maiskogel - Kaprun
Kitzsteinhorn Maiskogel attracts a broad range of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts, with intermediates and families particularly well represented. The glacier ensures reliable snow quality even when lower altitude resorts struggle, though reviewers consistently note that the resort gets extremely busy during peak periods, especially February half-term and school holidays. Most users praise the modern lift infrastructure, wide pistes, and excellent terrain parks, while several mention high costs for lift passes and on-mountain facilities. The town of Kaprun receives mixed feedback—some appreciate its quieter atmosphere and good restaurants, while others find it lacks traditional ski resort charm and has limited après-ski options.

The town of Kaprun itself is beautiful and well served by lots of apres bars and restaurants of a great quality. Easy to walk around, and great local bus services to take you around the town and to the different ski areas including over to Zell am See which opens up a whole other terrain (be sure to get the correct lift pass!) and it’s not too far to get over to Saalbach- a taxi was about 30 mins but I think you can get buses over too.
Would definitely recommend for families and those who are improving, if looking for off piste and challenging pistes it’s not ideal although there is still some there
Very fun after a dump.
Not a lot of slopes and the lifts are quite slow. Lots of bottlenecks.
Very fun when it's sunny, lovely restaurant on top of the mountain. Amazing link between the two ski areas.
