El Tarter is a charming, laid-back village in Andorra, and is part of the renowned Grandvalira ski area. Located just 1.5 km from Soldeu, it offers a quieter, more relaxed experience while still providing excellent access to 210 km of interconnected slopes. El Tarter is a favorite among families, couples, and budget-conscious travelers, offering a mix of self-catering apartments, cozy hotels, and even a popular hostel for those seeking affordable yet comfortable accommodations.

This small village may be more peaceful than its neighbor Soldeu, but it doesn’t lack character. Après-ski options include Dylan’s, a modern spot combining a restaurant, cocktail bar, and chill-out lounge, and L’Abarset, a lively venue at the foot of the slopes offering traditional mountain dishes, drinks, and events with live music and DJs. Whether you're looking for a vibrant evening or a relaxed meal with friends, El Tarter has something to suit your mood.

Access to the slopes is seamless, thanks to a gondola and a chairlift, both conveniently located near the village’s main car park. Beginners can take the gondola to reach a dedicated learning area with one of the best English-speaking ski schools in Europe. From here, skiers and snowboarders can explore the wide, tree-lined slopes, ideal for building confidence. El Tarter is also a hub for more advanced snow lovers, with access to Grandvalira’s extensive network of blue, red, and black runs, as well as off-piste opportunities and a connection to Peretol’s Sunset Park for freestyle enthusiasts (which also is open at night).

The village’s family-friendly atmosphere is enhanced by great childcare options, including ski schools and kindergartens for children of all ages. Families will appreciate the self-catering accommodation and proximity to a small supermarket for stocking up on essentials. However, parking can sometimes be a challenge, especially in snowy conditions, although there is ample parking at the base of the slopes.

El Tarter’s laid-back vibe, stunning scenery, and excellent facilities make it an ideal destination for skiers and snowboarders seeking a relaxing holiday. Its peaceful atmosphere, paired with easy access to the broader Grandvalira area, ensures you can enjoy the best of both worlds: tranquility in the village and adventure on the slopes.

Reviews

We loved every second of our ski vacation here! The restaurants were amazing. Reasonable prices! Loved that we could ski all the way to France! We love the people, we loved shopping at the grocery store. So different from home! Great ability on the hill to stop for lunch or a coffee. Hills were groomed

Stayed in El Tarter for a week during half-term. Very good range of skiing (blues, reds and a number of challenging blacks) and beautiful sunshine everyday. Small village so everything is close to the lift. There were lift queues in the main areas but less so further out. Good snow covering by cannons. A few pistes were closed due to a lack of snow. There were several good snow parks which the kids loved. The blue slopes into Soldeu got quite crowded.
