What Skiers Say About Whitewater Ski Resort
Whitewater attracts predominantly advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders seeking off-piste terrain, tree runs, and backcountry access. Reviewers consistently mention exceptional powder quality, frequent snowfall, and minimal lift queues. The resort is described as small with limited groomed runs, making it less suitable for beginners and families. The on-mountain food receives widespread praise for quality and creativity. Several reviewers note the absence of mobile phone reception and the need to stay in nearby Nelson due to lack of on-site accommodation. Older, slower chairlifts are mentioned as a drawback, though most reviewers consider the terrain quality compensates for infrastructure limitations.

When it's snowing here it doesn't stop. Prepare to never want to leave this resort. People are kind and connecting.
Strangers stopping strangers just to greet each other.
It's worth the go!
A really special play. If you know you know !
Whitewater has no on hill accommodation but that is ok because the city of Nelson is only half an hour away. There are plenty of options in town as well as an eclectic mix of dining options. The apres often moves into town at Mike's Pub or Backroads Brewing (our personal favorite).
Food options at Whitewater are a plenty as well. The main restaurant and cafeteria has the best and most creative ski hill food you will find. Seriously, they have won accolades and even published several cook books. You can also get price friendly food downstairs like pizza and hot dogs but our personal favorite would be the quaint little lodge at the Glory Ridge. It has a silver miners mess hall vibe and amazing hot food.
Oh, and the powder dumps at Whitewater range from good to amazing! Light and dry snow blows over Ymir peak and fills the bowls often. There is a reset every few days or at least weekly.

Best pow, gladed runs and steep fall line skiing. Best food anywhere.
There is a variety of terrain including glades, moguls and small cliffs to jump off, it is the perfect and there is something for every level of skier/snowboarder. With consistent snow all throughout the season and a sheltered mountain the snow is very good and there is nearly always fresh lines to be found, the chairlifts are a little slow however it is always worth the ride up, the whole resort is fun and rewarding.
It is always a very safe resort with lots of different routes down meaning it is difficult to get stuck somewhere you shouldnt be.
The staff are very kind and knowledgeable and I always had positive interactions with them, the lodge and base area is well planned out and easy to navigate. The food in the lodge is good quality and not too expensive for resort food. Nelson is also a fun and nice city with lots to do and see, there is a variety of restaurants and bars for after you have finished at the mountain, there are also lots of cheap options for accommodation in Nelson.
Overall white water is an awesome resort for people looking to start there free ride journey and for people looking to challenge themselves on some more difficult terrain.
There is an abundance of tree skiing, with perfectly spaced trees, and access to huge backcountry terrain. Whilst there are only 4 chairlifts, there is a huge amount of terrain that can be accessed from these lifts - and there are never any lines, even on a powder day! The terrain is best suited to advanced-intermediate to expert skiers, with plent of chutes, glades and bowls in the resort.
I was also blown away by the food scene on the mountain. Being such a small resort, I was expecting a budget canteen. However, it blows bigger resorts such as Whistler out the water. You'll find fresh, wholesome meals from Asian dishes to local delights where the ingredients have been sourced locally. The recipes have been in such high demand over the years that they now sell 'Whitewater Cooks' recipe books!
The resort is located just 20 minutes from the quirky town of Nelson, which deserves its own review, where there are plenty of accommodation options, hip restaurants, cafes and bars - most independently owned. There is also a small lodge nearby (Logden Lodge) which really tops off the full Canadian experience - think rustic log cabin with a crackling fire burning, set in the nearby forest.
Overall, Whitewater has become one of my all-time favourite resorts, and I have been lucky enough to ski 50+ resorts worldwide.
