Mountain Shaker Spotlight: Kirsty Muir Takes 1st World Cup Win in Tignes
Tignes played host to the electrifying Mountain Shaker festival this March, bringing together the world’s best freeskiers for a week of high-octane action, music, and mountain culture. The 2025 edition, held from March 8 to 14, featured four major competitions: the Evolution2 Freeride Series (part of the Freeride World Tour Qualifier), the FISE Xperience Series (skateboarding and rollerblading), the FIS Ski Big Air World Cup, and the FIS Ski Slopestyle World Cup. Snomad were lucky enough to attend and be part of the incredible energy, experiencing both the jaw-dropping competitions and the fun festival vibes. If you're planning a ski trip to France next season, I'd thoroughly recommend timing it with the event of the season in Tignes! Powder skiing, sunshine, the best freestyle athletes in the world and some incredible Après featuring DJs, fireworks and a fun festival atmosphere.
As part of the FIS World Cup circuit, the slopestyle finals took place on the final day of the event - and it was Kirsty Muir who stole the show. With a clean and stylish run packed with technical tricks, the 19-year-old Scot took 1st place, marking a huge moment in her competitive career. I caught up with Kirsty after her victory to chat about the win, her mindset going into finals, and what this result means for her season.
Dan Lever: Kirsty! Congratulations, your 1st World Cup win. How are you feeling?
Kirsty Muir: Thank you! So crazy, so many emotions, I'm so happy. It's so cool!
Dan Lever: Tell me about how you were feeling going into the event today.
Kirsty Muir: Every event, I'm trying to go in with no pressure because this is my, I don't know, 5th World Cup back since my knee. It's not that many. I was just going in, no pressure, I just wanted to land my run. It's always in the back of your mind that you can podium but I just wanted to land the run as best as I could.
Dan Lever: Talk me through that journey of the comeback, the resilience that you've shown and all the work you've put in up to this point.
Kirsty Muir: It was a whole year of gym - that's just what is is like 5 days a week so I've put in a lot of effort and I'm just excited for this moment and it's here and I'm so excited. It's been a quick turnaround from getting back in the park in December (2024) till now and doing the world cup.
Dan Lever: Talk to me about the course, what do you think about it?
Kirsty Muir: It's my first time here for the World Cup and it's a super sick course - I really liked the rails in this one, super sick, and with the jumps, we just had to work it out - the weather was a bit wack in the training days so we just did our best and here we are!
Dan Lever: Congratulations Kirsty, incredible!
Kirsty: Thank you, thank you so much!
