Sugarloaf offers a tremendous amount of consistent vertical drop, good snowfall averages, and a variety of terrain (groomed and otherwise). The lodging options are somewhat limited, probably because so few of the local second homes are rented on a short-term basis (their owners are too busy skiing). Sugarloaf puts its relatively northern location and higher base elevation to good use with a longer season than most, and it offers some truly unique terrain with the snowfields.
Unfortunately, Sugarloaf also has some truly unique weather, which makes accessing the summit terrain something of a challenge. Winds can regularly affect lift operations and snow quality, and if skiing in sub-zero air temps isn't your thing, you should probably book your visit for April.

Great mountain but not for the beginners, a lot of black slopes and doubles diamonds, definitely for more experienced riders. Good snow quality and a fun place to be, a lot of restaurants around, its like a small town around the mountain

Sugarloaf has been my favourite ski destination for over 50 years.
The skiing and trails are incredible. The views are breathtaking. The people are some of the nicest you will ever meet anywhere. The village is great and the accommodations are plentiful. There are some great resorts in the northeast, but none beat Sugarloaf.

Classic east coast ski m, with great food, a chill atomosphere and reasonable rates. Parking usually isnt a huge issue. Lift lines are busy on the weekends but not like west coast resorts.

Great mountain kids programs outstanding the trails all converge on one area so kids can just go and you know they can find their way back. Dining and accommodations are excellent. Snow quality is good from the significant snow making system. Customer service ok .. feels a bit like theyre doing you a favor by letting you be there. Bottom of the list for grooming seams and anomalies along with churned up dirt are very common. Overall an experience you dont want to miss but in the past theyve been better.

Get there early and lap a higher lift. Amazing views on a clear day and some fast skiing too

As an intermediate to advanced skier, I feel that Sugarloaf provides me with the perfect range of options to hone my skiing talents. From freshly groomed terrain to an awesome terrain park and tree runs, they really have it all. Additionally, they are equipped with some of the best snow making technology in the northeast, providing some amazing powder zones.
I unfortunately had a rough fall a few seasons ago and was quickly met with extremely friendly resort members, as well a super helpful ski patrol team. There is no where else I would recommend skiing in Maine, id youre on a budget and not looking for something too pricey.
